not that I would recommend growing in a rental, but why would you tell ANYONE ??? Even if it's not a legal issue for you, telling him sets you up to be ripped off by anyone the landlord happens to mention it to. And believe me, he will tell. Each person he tells makes your problem that much worse. This is of course assuming that the landlord is not one of those anti medial marijuana freaks. If he is, I hope you have a new place to move to. Also, any good landlord would start thinking about lights and electricity use and water... he might want a huge deposit just in case you set the place on fire even if he was cool with it, or maybe a percentage of your crop. I guess what I am getting at here is WHY would the landlord have a need to know this? Do not tell anyone. Ever.Quote:

i did ask and there really isnt a good way to ask but if you insist on doing it then make sure you explain that you have a LEGITIMATE reason (u do have one right?) and hope for the best. The reason I did it is because I can not afford to lose my place I am disabled and havent had a job where i collect a check for 3 years. And just to kinda feel out there thought on it because its not a small complex, there are 303 apts here. I was told that because of FEDERAL law one of my neighbors could sue them because there was "ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES" going on here if they smelled it or something (this was the words that I was told second hand from the complex's lawyer to the manger of where I live, to me). It was then implied that QUOTE "it isnt like someone is going to come in and check your apt everyday, get it" END QUOTE
So I guess the moral is... do what u think is best, THE POLICE OF CA WILL NOT EVICT SOMEBODY FOR HAVING ONE PLANT. 99% guaranteed. I have talked to renters in the area that have tenants that just have houses rented out that people are using for grow houses only, and he cant legally evict them. the cops wont do anything about it.

first of all, i would check your lease. my last lease specifically stated in it that i could not grow, manufacture, sell, or smoke marijuana in the apartment i was renting or on the property. so before you even say anything to your landlord, i would check to see if its already in your lease.
if it isnt in your lease, i dont think that i would tell my landlord becuz like said before, he could be against medical mearijuana and then you'd be looking a new place to live.
Is it better to not rent because the landlord is an ass - or get evicted because the landlord is an ass. I guess it's a matter of personal choice.
I am a real estate broker, AND a landlord; so that is my perspective. And here it my not-so-humble opinion. I would rather have someone be honest and upfront with me that try to sneak in. And, sooner or later, I'm gunna catch ya.
What happened to me once what this: Lady says she liked the place, thought the price was right. She explained that she needed her meds, it wasn't just for fun. That she didn't sell. She said that her current landlord allowed her to grow and that she had been there for over five years. She told me that she had to move because the landlord was loosing the house in foreclosure. She invited me over to the place she was in currently to see the condition it was in. I didn't feel that it was necessary, and I didn't take her up on the offer, but I did rent to her after calling her landlord and getting a great reference "Pays on time, takes care of my property." She was a good tenant for a long time, and every once in a while I got some very special brownies.
Sometimes you gotta kiss a few frogs till you find your prince - but, I've always found that honesty is the best policy.
Read your lease. My lease has terms regarding indoor plant policies. It specifically discusses not having too many indoor plants and indicates that the plants cannot be in excess to the point that mold/mildew would occur. I have carbon filtration, ionization, and ventilation equipment to ensure that I am in compliance with my lease. I didn't ask them to grow. It is none of their business what indoor plants I grow; as long as I am not breaking the lease or the law.

Actually, that owner has every right to evict. By Federal law, providing a residence for the purpose of cultivating drugs is still illegal, and that house owner risks forfeiture of his property under Federal laws.
And there hasn't been a court YET that has dares to challenge that, 10th amendment not withstanding.
