what to do when its ready to harvest?

once your plants are ready to harvest why do you need to flush them ? and for how long for?
also how will i be certain when to harvest?
do i just cut the tree down and hang it up or leave it in the dark in its pot to dry out then cut and hang?
any info regarding the ending process please

you need to flush your plants to get the nutrients out of the plant so that you are not smoking or injesting them.
