Ive had these fungus gnats ever since i transplanted my plants into this organic soil, ive been using fly traps and what not to catch adults, i heard sand on top of the soil will suffocate the eggs. N i heard peroxide will kill the grubs but i wanna see of theres anything else i can do, i dont want buds to start with these damn grubs
I found the best way was to keep those sticky strips like used in barns in olden days.....Still around at hardware stores. Grubs I am not sure. H.Peroxide will add oxygen to the mix, doubt if it will assist....
Gnats like the soil, so you could take real sticky tape and lay it on top of the soil. As a last resort, and if not in late flower, a pyrethrin based insecticide or shell no pest strip for 10 days should help.
Prevention is the key to these buggers. Never use unsterilized soil, nor outdoor soil. See my link for prevention and treatment measures for mites, much crosses over.

I never be havin any critters in my soil but do get the little flyin flies from time to time. I always be puttin an inch or two of clean play sand ontop the soil and never be havin any issues be usein the sand and sticky fly strips and all be good to go pilgrem use sand from start to finish yu wont be sorry.Quote:

Yup the only pain in the arse with the sand yu need be takin care when yu be waterin not to displace the sand to quick caus the dirt will rise to surface just water slow and careful be all good pilgrem.Quote:

Ya the critters n the soil r all the gnat larvae, i never have bugs either i got them because the soil i bought was infested, fuck home depot. I didnt kno it had bugs till the plants were alreddy transplanted. Nxt time. Need to pay for attention to the soil i buy cuz i wouldnt have this problem rite now. Imma jus keep doin the yellow traps n ill get some sand. that outta do the trick. Btw i just started flowering about a week ago or so
you can take the sand back off in a week or 2...but yes watering with it is slow, but I would rather water slow and take my time with that than deal with bugs ;). watch it too that you don't over water, your soil will hold moisture longer with the sand...

Odds are that you have root aphids as well.:(

It's systemic and should not be used after veg.

Quick n easy?
Go to da laundry room and grab a couple Bounce dryer sheets.:cool:
They repel most insects, Fungus Gnats too.
Lay one on top of the soil.
Cut a slit to the center of the sheet for the stem and try to cover the surface.
It no gotta be perfect. It's a smell repel.
Put the other one under the container.
The sand is a good idea but is flawed.
(Root aphids will dodge topical sand and lay eggs through the drainage holes)
Dryer sheets solved my ant problem as well, and, so far, have kept da Root Aphids at bay.
Have not seen one F.G. for 2 months, outdoors!
And the ever-present ants at the sink are gone!:cool:

Well it turns out the bugs r worse then i thot. I watered them and was disgusted by how many little bastards i saw. I have like 4 different stages of a fungas gnays life in my plant soil. Eggs, larva, mites and adults. Imma get the sand n traps tomm n start this project. Dont ever use outdoor soil.
