Need some help on cloning to keep a mama!
As the title says I want to get clones off my plants before I turn them into flowering and once the grow ends and I sample em all keep the best ones to maintain a mother.
The problem is that I do not have separate grow rooms for veg and flowering. I'm growing 9 Hawaiian Snow plants atm and I'm thinking that if I take clones I wont be able to maintain them alive as cuttings or in a small size vegging plant till the flowering of the main plants finishes. (should be around 8 weeks...:() So is there a way of maintaining the cuttings till its time to harvest so I can then move them in the grow room? I can make space in a closet or in a small storage space I have and install some CFL to keep em in vegetation but not quite sure how to do it.
Is there any other option? Like taking clones during flowering? Jorge says it can be done if you choose cuttings from lower branches that don't get much light... Any ideas? :what:

Yes you can take clones durring flowering, but it takes a few weeks more for the flowers to die back and new shoots to grow. Doing it that way has a higher degree of difficulty. But you can pick your best girl, and clone that, vs a more random pick.
If you mean by "maintaining" your clones you can't keep them cut, but not planted, for any length of time.
The idea about building a seperate space is the way to go. It never hurts to have some extra room. CFL's are cheap and fine for veging. And you don't need much room for a single mom.
And I think your Hawaiian Snow is a sativa, and will probably take a little longer than 8 weeks.

I think I'm gonna give it a go with taking clones while flowering. Always love a good challenge anyway :D And by "maintaining" I meant it in a multi point of view way lol. Sorry I didn't make that clear. I meant either what you said of maintaining the cuttings in rockwool or something or just keeping the plants small to save space. :1baa:
I was planning on building a separate veg room at some point but budget is kinda low atm so it will have to wait. I have an old fridge somewhere in the garage though I may turn that into my mama room!
And yes she is a sativa and a pure one that is, no indica strains in the genetics. Green House says 11 weeks, but is that 11 of flowering or veg included? I was counting on 3 veg /8 flow but I think I got it wrong. That was an aspect that always confused me in the seedbank descriptions anyway...

fwiw, That's the way I prefer to take clones, especially from a sativa. It's not really more difficult, as I've found they usually _root_ faster, but the reverting to vegetative growth really slows 'em down a good bit. That extra week or so of little growth is a definite plus if you want to keep them small. Keep the humidity up!
The clones from budding plants grow out nice, like they've been topped a couple times. :thumbsup:

As a loose rule of thumb, add at least a week to the breeders description. There is a lot of room for variables which will mess with finishing times. For your Hawaiian Snow, I would plan on 12 weeks,..minimum. Don't be surprised if she wants to run longer. (Yes, just flowering) :)

If you're looking for an 8 week strain, Magus Genetics "Warlock" runs like clockwork for me, 56 days from the flip. :thumbsup: First one I've personally come across that actually _looks_ finished in that time-frame. Nice medicine.
Not a sativa, but you wont be finding that in an 8-weeker.

That tempts me even more now!!! Will definitely try cloning during flowering! :thumbsup: What about keeping the cuttings in the fridge for a while? Would that work? Found a thread about it in some other boards:

Not looking for an 8weeker no, and I'm not in a hurry. I do particularly prefer sativa dominant strains but anything without a total couchlock is fine for me! :rastasmoke: The only reason I thought it was 11 weeks total asides the seedbank description, was this video here.
