Yet another trimming debate!
First of all before you start :flaming1: flaming me that this has been debated countless of times before and posted in several posts, I will state the reasons I started a new thread:
- Didn't want to highjack someone else's thread or resurrect an old one.
- It's not about the general concept of trimming but of specific branches on a specific strain.
- I have valid info from a trusted source to backup the claim that it may be needed and beneficial after all.
This is regarding Green House Seeds Hawaiian Snow strain. According to this video, YouTube - Green House Seed Hawaiian Snow Grow with Japanese Subtitles done by the founder of Green House Seeds himself that created the strain in the first place, before switching to flowering they trim off the bottom branches to allow better airflow and also push all the power of the plant to the top into the colas. Or at least that's what they say at around 02:30 into the video. I mean, if THEY do it, shouldn't they know better? Just plain common sense I guess... or maybe not? :wtf:
I am going to do it anyway to half my plants and compare results at the end with the rest but I would like some constructive discussion/debate on the matter nevertheless. Any thoughts?
PS. Check my profile for my album/log. This is my first grow btw that's why I want to experiment a little with them. If they do make it through that is and I don't end up killing em.

thats logical in my opinion. these plants are not as vulnerable as people make them out to be, in all retrospect, they are in fact weeds. weeds live in harsh environments. we as growers just give them a lot TLC for the biggest and baddest buds. i personally trimmed mine to see the effect on my first grow, cant argue with the results. my next grow will be half trimmed and fertilized just to see how they compare. there is nothing wrong with experimenting. how else do we learn our own growing techniques

couldn't agree more with you mate, I just wish you or someone else had done a side by side comparison to see the differences. :wtf: I guess I'll just have to wait 2-3 more months (IF all goes well and I don't end up :rambohead: my first grow) and see for myself. I'm currently growing 9 plants of the same strain so I have enough to work with. Although I would prefer to be from clones and not seeds so the data is more stable. Oh well, will have to do the next grow like that as well I guess if I manage to keep a mother, unless I see some HUGE difference that couldn't just be better genetics of one seed compared to another. Will trim half of em, will try a single FIM on one and maybe a double on another, dunno, I'm just feeling creative!!! :D

Did you say they are all from seed? Are they all feminized?
It is my understanding that 9 different seeds will produce 9 different plants, genetically. You should see a pretty obvious difference in these plants. You'll probably want to grab one or two of the best and mother them. Or, clone all of them before you go to flower, and then mother one or two of the clones based on the flowered plant's production and any other variables you want to consider regarding the plant's genes and what that meant for its life cycle.

Feel free to snip 2 lower branches from each girl just before the switch to 12/12

(I use beer bottles.)

Suggest that you label each cutting with a bit of masking tape attached directly to the stem.
That way the label travels with the cutting.:thumbsup:
I used to use popsicle stick kine labels poked inna dirt.

Did a transplant of half a dozen ladies one day.
When I finished and came back out of concentration mode there were all my label sticks in a pile on the table, DOH!:stoned:
Bang-up job so far brah!

Yes they are all from feminized seeds so I know that they are bound to differ with eachother. I will try it nevertheless and I will do so again on the next grow that will hopefully be from clones, was looking into that in my other thread here.

And I'm suggesting that you write those names on masking tape and affix those labels to each lower branch before you snip them.
It may seem overcautious now but when you begin to "bio-assay" your first" sacrificial limb", these measure become necessary.
Best to get in dese kine habits when less baked.
Then you can run on auto-pilot with less hazard, yah?:stoned:

Some seeds strains have many different phenotypes of the same plant. I had a purple wreck last year that had 4 different plants out of 6 seeds....
