Help with lights please!
Ok so I have been looking at different lights on the streets, mostly the blue lights or metal halide. Well I have noticed major variations in the blue spectrum, as some lights give off white light and the very same light bulb will give off a deep blue light. Is this something to consider when purchasing a MH bulb? What color of MH is best, blue or white? I have come across a couple mercury vapor bulbs that give off a similar blue to MH bulbs, if not the same exact color. One other light I have seen quite commonly is a greenish color light but have not been able 2 research the actual bulb associated with the green color of light. Can someone help me make sense of all the difference In light spectrum from the same bulb? I am currently running a 1000 watt hps and am interested in throwing some other spectrums In the mix, mainly a metal halide but with all the difference in blue light how can I make a informed decision? PLEASE HELP!! LOL
And THANKS!

The problem with HID is that they'll shift in their spectral output as the internal electrodes and components degrade or migrate into the silica or quartz tube. That's why you're seeing such a broad difference. You also might be seeing MH versus MV lamps, MV lamps are a deeper color blue whereas MH tends to be more white.
If you want a supplement light, I would suggest getting LED panels. They'll last a LONG time as flowering supplements, they won't shift nearly as badly as HID lamps will, the yield improvement for lower power is wonderful, and you can REALLY push the potential of your HPS. Even though I run pure LED, if I had the space, I'd run a combo LED/HID system. Maybe next gen the LEDs will be better than HPS in every aspect, but not quite yet!
