Whats your take on trimming leafs
ok im asking around. Im running a lil 400w about 14in or so from my baby's, and there are great looking fan leafs but its blocking a good amount of light im wondering how bad is it to take off some of the fan leaf's for the lower nutes or is it better off leaving them and let it do its thing.
and then how much do you trim before flowering so that the med's are not all leafy but all the flowering points are getting enough light im going to have to use the 400w to flower so i need to get as much light as possible without stunting the growth
if anyone has done anything that worked out with good yields & quality please help by sending LINKS, PIC'S, VIDEOS of what to cut and what not to cut would help alot thanks :rasta:

I use to take them off,for better light penetration before I realized that I was compromising the photosenthesis. They need those leaves! Just fold them back.

Bend those little suckers into submission at this time! lol :S1:
Although, I still remove some later on but that is by personal choice. A lot of growers will disagree on it but I have seen the benefits and will continue to do what I feel needs to be done regardless.
Best of luck! :)

How about this? Take one lady and cut away. Leave the others alone. Wait and see after the grow which one produced more. But do NOT cut more than a 1/3 of the fan leaves off unless you want to really push the pedal to the metal.
Then you can report back your findings and give a little more education to an educated group of grow of folks. ;)

should i clean out the middle growth and so you all will know i ran it 18/6, 19/5 then 24/0 for awhile and dropped it to 20/4 im about to flower soon so you can vary with timing and not stress it out i will let you know what goes with cutting but 4sure dont cut more then 1/3 of the fan leafs what about all the small growth in the middle

Pick a light schedule and stick with it. Otherwise you risk stressing your girls into hermies.

i trim any fan leaf that is covering a growing tip, unless it can be bent or trained out of the way. I snap them off at the stem instead of using a knife and cutting them. It breaks the cells apart from each other, as opposed to just cutting through them.(i like to stimulate nature)
I trim week 1 of flower, week 3 of flower(right in the middle of stretch), and week 6-7(im harvesting in 2 weeks anyways, GET LIGHT TO EVERY BUD POSSIBLE). If a bud doesnt get light, it doesnt grow. When it comes down to it i want colas, not fan leaves.
All of the buds that dont recieve adequate light are going to be small waste of time/hash making buds anyways, and they're a pain in the ass to trim.
here are some of the plants(indoor as well as outdoor) that i grow using this kind of trimming. I dont just go crazy and cut fan leaves off, i only remove them in order to incease light penetration and bump my yield.

Thanks alot im trimming it up and going to flower it in 2 days im also tying alot of colas to grow out more then up the middle it is loving it so far but there are still big fan's at the top blocking what could be alot of light i just dont want to cut the fan leaf to early. how soon can you cut them from when it grow's out from the cola? do i have to wait till it is larger & dark green and do i have to leave fan's on every cola right now?
