Inside Exhaust? What am I not getting..

Hey guys, I'm very hesitant to take the final step and purchasing all my equipment until I'm sure of the design for my growroom. I'm from Europe so I won't have the specific words for construction stuff or what have you (Also itâ??s pretty cold over here). So here goes nothing...

As you can see it's going to be pretty cramped in there, and the proportions aren't right because I don't have the measurements of the equipment but it gives a good idea of the proportions and my tentative plan.

What I am interested in is the airflow. As you can see I will be using a small passive intake (window) to pull the air from, through the filter, cooltubes and then finally out of the room and into the living room which will be unheated and rather cold (especially now in the winter).

And that's another issue, if it's freezing cold outside and the lights are off I'd think even the slightest exhaust of air would put that room into freeze mode. The possibilities that I see are that either I crack the window open just a little and have the exhaust on the lowest setting to keep the passive intake from turning into a stink gateway...

Or I blast the heat in the room and let the speed controller with attached thermometer do the job of balancing it out through the exhaust; leaving the window open. Any Ideas?


I could have the black box that I put on the window with two holes, HoleA for straight exhaust through the lights without a filter and out the door.

HoleB would have ducting running low into the room to cool it and deliver CO2. I then have another blower at the door with a carbon filter directly before it.

Would I have â??thermometer speed controllersâ?� (haha, whatâ??s the word for this?) on both of them or just one? How does the CFM scale down. Could I use just one powerful exhaust? I'd be interested to hear if you think this will be an unnecessarily complicated idea.

Open to whatever but I can't touch the ceiling (wonâ??t be able to repair it) and the walls are drywall, pretty unsafe to hang something heavy on but you know, I don't have any experience with that so I don't know the load it can take or how to distribute it and so forth so Iâ??m going for a support grid made out of PVC pipes (someone suggested a tent, though I donâ??t see the benefitsâ?¦ maybe there are some, please advise).

what bulbs and reflectors you gonna use?
how many plants you wanna grow?
and if you wanna but the heater with thermometer MAKE SURE IT ISNT DRY HEAT...like fan heaters,cos they can damage plants baddly,and what hight is your seeling?

Just take intake air from the same room you are exhausting to. The exchange is what is important. You will also benefit by heating your home during light time.

I had NEVER thought of that... I'm actually shocked by the idea, it would solve all my problems.

Can you guys elaborate more on the idea? Why haven't I seen this before? :thumbsup:

2x600w in cooltubes (like on the pictures), plants a little over 20 SOG.

Ceiling height is 7', so pretty low.

I can only tell you what works for me.

I have an outdoors shed that I use as a grow room, and temperature control was one of my major problems. Cold in winter and hot in the summer.
I found that you can get inexpensive temerature controllers to control the exhaust fans. I use one ( 4 in. ) fan that runs continous and sucks the air from the rafters and exhausts outside. I also have 2 more 4 in. fans that are on temperature controllers set at aproximately 80 deg. so they only come on when the ambiant temperature hits 80.
The temperature controllers are fairly inexpensive units that I picked up at the local hardware store for around $20.00 ( US ). They are made to control attic fans and are ideal for what I use them for. They are also adjustable from around 60 deg to over 100 deg.
I try to use the heat generated by my lamps as suplimental heat in the grow room, ( I use a 1500 watt, thermostatically controlled ceramic heater to maintain temps ) The 2 fans that are temp controlled are hooked up to my lamps so as to only come on when it gets too warm. Note my 400 watt lamps are not enclosed, just fitted with reflectors, but the flexible ducting is hooked up too them so as too draw off the heat and exhasted outdoors.


As far as your idea of re-circulating your air, BAD IDEA!!!! Here is why.
If you are taking the air from inside your grow room, moving it too your living quarters, and putting it back into your grow room you will have problems. Your humidity will be exteme or next too imposible too control. You could inadvertantly introduce fungas spores and other nasties in this manner ( do you have dogs or cats?). And your whole house will smell like a marijuana garden.
