Internships? Legality?

I'm currently a student in horticulture, concentrating in landscape and nursery management. I live in a non-medical state, but would love to learn more about the MM industry from a grower's perspective.

Since I don't have a medical ID, would it be legal for me to work with a grower?

If anyone knows of any clubs or growers that would be interested? I'm not entirely familiar with the industry, and don't know the best way going about this.
