New to the boards with a question??
Hey all....
I know very little about using medical marijuana for chronic pain and I'm looking for answers. Bad car accident 5 years ago...normal process I guess..treatment..therapy..pain...hoping pain goes away....more pain...narcotics.....finally down to Tramadol and nerve blocks. I want off the Tramadol and the shots help but for how long??? no one knows?? Along the way, I have developed what the doctors call "nerve pain" 24/7. Burning and aches in joints, legs, arms, etc. in addistion to lower back pain. Now the question?? Am I a candidate for medical marijuana use? How does it work in replacment of other pain meds.?? Right now I am totally functional...will medical marijuana change this???
Sorry for the "silly" questions....any help appreciated.

Others may have more scientific advise. But from what you say the PAIN and Nerve issues can be HELPED and Decreased HOPEFULLY with the use of INDICA Strains..Indicas Are more of the Pain and body Effecting Herbs as the Sativas Are more of a Euphoric and Mind Uppity Effect.Check this site out it list almost all strains and there medicinal uses..

Thanks for the reply...a quick check of the info you suggested leaves me feeling that Indica would leave you less than functional...no? The Tramadol I take, although not YET classified as a narcotic in no way disruptes my day and leaves me able to drive, work, associate with others etc. Again, I know my ignorance is showing, sorry!

I assume you have never smoked or ingested Marijuana in anyway by these statements..Yes as a new smoker or how ever you ingest it..You would just have to know what doses to use..Maybe roll a small joint and smoke 1/4 of it and see how that effects you,and go from there..Ive never had much Buds that TOTALLY had me nonfunctional..Very relaxed mellow and calm and pain lessened, yes, but to the point where i felt i would in danger myself or others on the road way etc..NO.By the way i am prescribed that same medication that you speak of.I rather have Marijuana then these pills.Pills just upset my stomach and i cant eat as well as when i haven't taken these or my other pills.

I have smoked pot a VERY long time ago. Back then it was POT...we didn't know the difference between A or B. I would agree that it would be like starting over...all the different strains and what their specifiic uses are...I have much research to do. I also have lung issues (Asthma) so a friend indicated that I might want to use a "vaporizer" to avoid lung or breathing issues......but that's another post I guess.
Thanks for getting me started.

Yes your friend is correct a vaporizer is the cleanest way to "smoke" (Vapo)ask around here in the forum and you will get answers. Welcome.

My heart opens to your pain. You've come to the right place. A great place to start to learn about *medicinal* marijuana is Granny Storm Crow's list. Click ME!/
Find what sounds like your condition and you can start to get a feel for how cannabis can help you. Then, I would take the high flyer's sage wisdom and invest in a vaporizer. A basic Vapor Bros Box is around $150 or so and can do the trick. I would also look into tincture/salves and edibles. The rub on stuff is great for acute pain/neuropathy and edibles give a deeper body high. They take 60-90 minutes for effects, so patience is necessary.
Indica strains will become your friend.
Be well, friend. Learning can at least take the mind-body to a new realm, different from pain. Good luck.

I feel yur pain budd. I have sever back pain do to an injury in the U.S.Marine Corps. There are times were i can not get out of bed for the fear of me colapsing on the floor cause of the pain. Now medical mj as any drug will not completly relive you of your pain what it does it makes it managable, making it were you can function and be able to life a healthy fuctional life. Inicas are probly what you would want to try but if you find a caregiver that knows a bit about the meds then they can get you a sativa strian that works for pain but does not leave you with couch lock or yur face in a bag of chips,(indicas make me hungery). there are strians like cali mist, and cannatonic that are really good for pain they are high in cbd's a type of cannabiod that are good for pain. If you would like more info and some help abtaining your card check out my profile and hit me up are send me an e-mail at [email protected]. I have set up a local ASA chapter and this is what we do is help those paitients like you to get into the program and help them make the program work for them. plus we do lobbying and legislative work to get the program moving in a forward movement and to help preserve our right to grow. And alot more. I f you would like to volenteer or become an activist or just want or need information on the program just e-mail Diesel at ri_asa_chapter@ yahoo.com

I may do that...
Since I last posted, I have been reducing the Tramadol. It left me sleepier than I realized. I am "glad" to see a marine posting. My user name should give you an indication of from where I speak. When you speak to people about MM, most make you feel..well...I don't know weird/stigmatized I guess. These same people give me crap for wanting to try MM, had no problem with me taking 4 Vicodin a day. It is confusing at best!!:(
