I currently have a CFL set up that has 8 100w CFL's What I was wondering is what would happen if I added one or two infared lights and where I should put them. I was wondering the same thing about the ultraviolet lights.

Hello acursedblade,
Just so I know what I'm dealing with, you have 8- 100w CFLs. Is that actual 100watt bulbs or incandescent equivalent watts? Meaning the bulbs are abt 23 watts each?
IMHO, infared supplemental lights will not add anything to growth rate or finished product.
UV is dangerous to your eyes and skin, and should not be entered into lightly.
There is a thread, in advance techniques, called UVb an experiment, where I conducted a few tests. There is also some light spectrum discussion's there.

heat lamp = infared incandescent bulb = red/far red would the addition of red/far red have an affect OLDMAC ?
Sorry I forgot to say their the equivalent to 100w's, so their actually like 23-26 watts or something and they are Daylight bulbs also, not normal CFL's.Quote:

Yes, red and far red have an effect on the plant. With the correct ratios you can hold down height and get tighter node spacing.
A great source for far red are incandescent halogen bulbs, such as GE Reveals. They are also pretty cheap, 100 watt bulb is like $5.00.
I use them as "trigger" lights in my personal grow, they come on 1/2hr before my regular lights start the photoperiod and stay on abt 1/2hr from then. Then they come on again abt 1/2hr before lights out, and stay on 1/2 hr after that. I started doing this abt 4 years ago based on some info I got from a commercial greenhouse operator near me. I didn't understand it then and just barely understand it now. :D
Here's alink to a Tech paper that deals with red/far red ratios, and end of day lighting.
