Employment

I am a legal grower of cannabis in the great state of Oregon. I will be finishing up my B.S in Advanced Chemistry w/emphasis in Biochemistry. Are there any jobs in northern California that might utilize my expertise in Chemistry? My passion is the phytochemistry of cannabis, among other psychotropic substances. As a chemist I of course have developed methods for the extraction and purification of cannabinoids, and am very eager to learn evermore efficient techniques.

82 views and not a single taker huh??? well maybe I can spark a conversation by asking this. Liquid N2 is a nonpolar molecule....likes dissolve likes...Would liquid nitrogen be a safer more practical cannabinoid extraction method than the high pressure Super Critical CO2 methods??? :smokin:

1. Finish your BS before looking for jobs or moving.
2. My wife has her BS in organic chemistry and jobs are far and few between. It seems there would be little use of having a chemist on the payroll for a grower. Perhaps setting up your own consulting business would work best, then you can contract out your work and that may be more attractive to a grower than paying you a $60k salary when there isn't enough work for you to sit doing chemistry for 8 hours a day.

3. Havnt people been using liquid N2o for a long time now? I know C02 is more popular, and that's probably because it is slightly cheaper and the containers needed are cheaper. A portable tank of n20 (a dewar) is pretty expensive.

Have you tried it with the nitrogen? Is there a statistically significant increase in the yield compared to c02? I'm curious.

Thanks for the response... This weekend will be the trail run..Airgas will rent you a dewar with a 500 dollar deposit so assuming we dont break the thing whilst extracting all should be well. I believe their quote for Liquid N2 was $10 a liter.

I will make a post on Sat after we hopefully yield some very pure cannabinoids. Previously using lab grade hexanes to extract and distilling to recover hexanes works quit well and the product is great, but waxes and chlorophylls are still carried through to the final product regardless of sep funnel washes.

That's awesome, I can't wait to hear the results! My wifes a chemist but very anti-marijuana, but I wish she would do cool projects like this.

Well after our first test run we were unable to extract any cannabinoids with liquid N2, although we did have a lot of fun playing with the left overs. I guess its back to the Super critical CO2 extraction.

They've been using liquid nitrogen for a while now in extracting the cannabinoids from the plant. One thing that has the same basic concept as co2 and nitrogen and butane is liquid oxygen, more expensive but eh worth it? Could be.
