Energy question..

Hey ya'll.. someone told me electricity prices plumett at night, and in the early hours of the morning because I imagine.. everyones asleep.. Anyway, would this be worthwhile? you could tend your plants in the when the lights go on in the evening, and the next morning before they go out for the tonight.. might have to get up earlier occasionally.. If it were a sealed room cabinet dirt grow with an air filter, possibly co2.. a 250w hid, and an exhaust fan hooked up to a thermostat.. It would do alright.. heat would be easier to manage too as its cooler at night..

Usage drops at night, not the price. And how much it cost you depends on what you pay a kilowatt hour x the hours the light is on. You can find how much each type lamp uses doing a search. i.e. my T5 uses approx. $20.00 a month 24x7. A thousand watt example - 6 hrs x 1100 watts (a 1000 watt uses that) divide by 1000 x $ 0.04 per kwh x 30 days = $7.92. :thumbsup:

That is only true if your electric company is actually charging different rates at different hours. Some have that as an optional billing plan. You'll have to look up your EC plans and/or call to switch plans. If they are then set your timers around the peak hours.

Here's a tip, when calculating your usage be sure to put the decimal point in the right place. Meaning, if they are charging you for fractions of a cent, like 9.95 cents per KWH, it would be .0995. Don't put in your calculator 9.95 or you may have a heart attack from what your bill would look like. :eek:

As its been said, it depends on your Electricity plan. Mine is cheaper over night, $0.11NZD per kWh from 9pm to 7am, $0.22NZD per kWh onpeak.

But otherwise, yeah she'll work out fine. Check out my grow log in sig. 316W light output, 2 plant, cab grow.
