Anyone addressing patients, weight and bad math?
I'm not a rocket scientist but we have to get someone to look at the bad math involved for patients growing their own medicine. Every damned time I cut down a plant, I'm in violation of the law simply because the numbers don't make sense.
I'm allowed 2 ounces of medicine, but it seems that most busts go by plant weight, not usable material weight. So a plant 5 days from harvest, with fan leaves, stems, and untrimmed is obviously way more than 2 ounces for any decent sized plant. The numbers don't make sense.
The day of harvest, if I immediately destroy/remove all fans/trim and stalks, I still have over two ounces for most plants - trimmed fresh buds lose about 30% of their weight the first few days of drying, so if I only keep two fresh trimmed ounces, I would end up with 1.25 or so dry, so I have to keep ALL the weight to try and dry out at two ounces, so wet until dry is in violation of the law because the numbers don't make sense.
After the seven or so days that it hangs and dries, and let's say that I now have two dried ounces of material. Good for me - but what about the 30 day cycle where I cure it in glass jars for optimum flavor, potency, and the health benefits as it breaks down the plant matter? Am I not supposed to have any meds in the house for that 30 days? The numbers don't make sense.
When my curing cycle is over and I now have my meds I cannot legally cut down another plant until this is all gone or I'll again be over the limit as illustrated by the above.The numbers don't make sense. I need to be able to keep some curing, some drying, and some for consuming.
I am saddened at how little any one seems to care about the patients themselves. At MMCs the quality to price ratio is out of whack so I have to make my own. Do they know (or care) that most every patient that has to grow their own isn't able to comply with the weight limits most of the time?
Two ounces seems reasonable if you buy your medicine, but if you grow your own, drying time, curing time, and having product to use while in a 45-60 harvest cycle simply does not fit the weight limits we're given.
I read a couple threads ago where someone actually suggested flushing the excess. Whew - that was a nice chuckle, but equally unrealistic.

you are correct, none of it adds up and nobody gives a fuck about the patients. hell, 1284 would never have happened if it weren't for the giant pot leaf signs and neon dr reefers. then, like everything else, the regulation was called for by the do-goodies just to become a money thing for the state and commercial interests and a pr thing for the politician slobs pushing it through.

Even the OP's #'s are skewed, (one can expect to loose 70% of weight during drying and curing) I recently (2 weeks ago) brought down a plant, that plant packed a whopping 6.3 oz after trimming the fans but leaving stalks to hang dry. OVER my limit even tho I'm a CareGiver for 2 patients, plus my wifes home grow. (which should allow me 6 oz finished product)
After hanging for a week, I did a 2nd cut to de-stem most of the buds and start curing, after curing for a week I've pulled it back out of the jars and re-weighed it,.... 1.5 oz, so the harvest off of that plant is legal, even for "personal use",.... and it's still not really finished.
It's grey, the law say's 2oz "usable" which implies finished meds, but then it also states that "Leaves" are considered to be "Usable" there's nothing stating which state of the cycle those leaves have to be in? So while they can't count "Stems Stalks and Roots" as "Usable" they could defoliate your veging plants and count the weight of those leaves!?!? WTF?

Yea you Indoor growers might lose 70%.... Us outdoor guys dont have such big loses. I dont anyway . Heck I had one "bud" last week that weighed 4 1/2 lbs.

In our case the usable product consisted of dried weight of buds. And about a pound of sugar trim that was in the queue for making hash. Leaves on the plants are counted as plants, not usable product.
However, if you had a hefty bag full of fan leaves ready for the trash, now you have a big pile of "Usable Product" once they dry it for weight. That was part of Jason Lauve's problem. He had shitloads of trash kicking around. Get rid of that stuff! Luckily the night before we were raided we had tossed out a lot of trash. Whew !
Another point in plant count. After harvest toss the root ball. If it's a stalk sitting in a bucket with that one tiny bud at the bottom, it's a plant.

What would make indoor different than outdoor for loss? And 70%? That seems like a REALLY high percent of loss.
I've weighed buds freshly cut and trimmed and then dried/cured - the top fat kolas untouched and in big mason jars - I'm losing about third of weight during drying/curing. This seems consistent over several months - I grow in soil indoors, if that matters.
