Does anyone take off all the water leaves before turning the lights off?

I've had three different people tell me to do it...but the one guy who has been growing the longest who I talked to said to leave them all on. Not sure what to do, but once the lights go off tomorrow its all over!! :cool:

Well, I just cut all the leaves off and Im leavin the plants in the dark for bout 30 hours so I'll let ya'll know how it all goes!

are you harvesting in 30 hours or just turning the lights back on ??

ok ,checked ur other post.....ur gonna harvest......but you've been having mold/mildew problems........leaving them in the dark ...unharvested....seems like a bad idea.

I cut all the water leaves at like 9 this morning...at like 3pm tomorrow Im pulling all the plants and hanging. I heard all the sugars go to the roots during the darkness so Im pulling out the entire plant, root and all, and hanging them. This is my first harvest so its just a trial and error..I got outdoor plants to be pulled in a few weeks so its not big deal if these dont come out perfect, Im just trying something out that I heard would work.

one of the processes that occur during curing is the conversion of harsh burning carbs into smoother burning starches and stuff so i can see why you would want to reduce the quantity of carbs in the buds at harvest time.most growers achieve this with a good flush before harvest causing the plant to use up its reserves of sugars and nutes in first the fan leaves and than secondary and sugar leaf.while that process is occuring the roots continue to PRODUCE THEIR OWN CARBS while trying to find food for the above ground reproductive parts.the roots can sometimes live for weeks after the above ground plant has been removed......i guess what i'm trying to point out is that very few if any sugars are sent to the roots by the above ground parts.if the Technic works it must be for a reason not related to the carb cycle.it's not to late for a side by side.cut one plant away from its roots and hang.compare it to the others at the end of ur cure.

pardon my stupidity, but what are "water leaves?" Do you mean Sun Leaves?

Yes, many newbies fall for the sugar to the roots or some other adage that requires hanging, upside down or not, which really are old wives tales.

You can flush all you want but you will not get the sugars out of the plant, that is part of photosynthesis. The cure time allows the sugars to be converted to byproducts we smoke. If not cured, then we get harshness. Continued harshness after 2 week cure is N, and removing N is the reason to flush.

I have tried the 24-72 hours of darkness with multiple species, and find no difference at all in intensity, quality, flavor, % of trichomes. Sometimes I do it just for convenience tho.

I suppose it could be proven something happens with the darkness, but whatever it may be has no effect that I can notice, and I been growing my own for 35 years (damn I am getting too old).
