Is going legal worth it
Greetings all
Several years back i started growing on a very small scale in the hopes that Medical cannabis might help them with the pain they suffered due to several medical issues, unfourtunatly it did little but i did find what i grew was useful for a couple med patients that i knew and before long i found myself crossing strains and trying new strains in the search for the perfect plant (i was hooked on growing which is amusing as i really don't like smoking the plant myself ).
I have a lot of experiance (horticultural rather than hardcore botanical) breeding perennials and found cannabis a joy to work with thanks to it's short life cycle and tailored the plants for the individual med patients with some degree of succsess and would love to continue working in this direction however the potential change in the laws (even assuming the senate modifies the conservative bill on mandatory minimums) has made me consider going legal as a grower for several patients (assuming this is doable at the moment) however the limits on plant numbers would make any meaningful breeding work much harder and a lot slower (don't get me wrong i am not planning massive outdoor (i do grow mostly outdoors) grows with thousands of plants yielding hundreds of lbs but the simple truth is the more seedlings started the better the chances of finding something special and worth developing into a true breeding strain.
So going legal reduces the risk but limits potential strain development (i would assume there are no hidden provisions that would allow such work seeing that the goverment seems bent on doing the least possible to meet their legal obligations in the medical canna department)
so i am wondering what you folks think? Personally i don't mind the paperwork but i really don't feel that growing medical cannabis is a particularily risky project if your careful but frankly mandatory minimums worry me. Any input would be appreciated.
Some other information about my circumstances. I live in the country and have grown outdoors for about 8 years with no legal troubles and tend to grow out a couple hundred plants a year but seeing how i am searching for interesting genetics rather than growing for massive profit i keep the plants small and only produce a small amount of bud each year.
