White widow problem

This is my first grow, i have a white widow and a casey jones growing. I'm about 2 weeks into flowering and some of the leaves on the white widow are getting crispy-turing yellow with brown spots-then some are seeming to dry out and die. It's happening to leaves at all levels (some that are more hidden towards the bottom and some top fan leaves) but the majority of the leaves look ok.

The temp and humidity are around 80 during the day and around 70-73 at night, lights are plenty far away from the tops of plants.

-5 gal buckets
-Botanicare nutes (aqua sheild, pure blend, cal mag +, liquid karma)
-also using hydrozyme
-I'm following a grow chart given to me by a friend.
-I usually feed them every other watering, sometimes i'll feed them 100% then water then 100% then 25% versus just water nute water nute.

*the casey jones looks great meanwhile so whatever is happening isn't harming the casey jones even though i treat it the same.*

Anyone seen this before or know what it might be? thanks for your help!

Too many nutrients... either nute lockout or a disease thats all i can really guess

You need to cut back on all those nutrients. You should only be giving them 1/4-1/2 of the reccommended feeding every other watering.

Are you PHing your water, that could be the issue as well?

My Ph was around 7.2 last time i checked, i'm going to get some Ph adjuster to add in my next watering. Is 6.0 a good place to be?

I'll cut back on the nutes, my friend convinced me to do full nutes every watering when i started and i saw some indications of nute burn so i cut back to what i'm doing now. (I guess i'll have to check his facts before taking his advise anymore)

I'll try switching to 1/2 or 1/4 then water and see what happens.

For the nute lockout what do you guys reccomend? Is there any way to reverse it or is it too late?

Botanicare should have a feeding schedule somewhere online, check that. The numbers are probably for weekly feedings, not single feedings, so split up those doses accordingly.

Aim for a ph between 6.3-6.8 for soil, 5.2-5.9 for hydro (double-check that hydro figure, but around there ;)). A digital ph pen like a Milwaukee 600 is only $20, good for testing colored/tinted water and run-off, something those strips and drops can't do.

The leaves won't recover, but get your ph in check, give it a flush (10-15 gallons of properly ph'd water), and see how it's doing. Would be nice to know the run-off and get a better idea of what's going on in the soil.

If the CJ looks good then keep doing what you're doing with that, but now you know different plants and strains may have different needs :thumbsup:

Yeah thats the ph teste that i have, and the 7.2 was the ph of my runoff water last time i checked it.(about 2 days ago)

Wow i hope i'm not adding a weeks worth of nutes every time i feed! I'll definitely have to find another feeding chart somewhere and see if i can get a more accurate schedule for what these plants need.

The cj is now showing some nute burn or something as well- just a little yellow around the edges. the first time i noticed burn this is what happened, and it didn't effect the ww. Although a little scary, at least i'm learning something from this.

I grew white widow on my last indoor grow. 5 gal pots 400 watt lamps, organicare soil. I found that WW does not like the same level of nutriants that my other strains could safely take and would 'lock out' if over fed.
solution: flush thouroughly with ph adjusted water to rinse out the surplus that has built up in the soil. I do not have a ph meter, just simple cheap test strips that are as acurate as any meter, and a lot cheaper. (available at walmart, or any nursery. First check your water supply for ph. (I have a well that delivers constant 7.0) I had to buy some ph down to bring it down to the desired levels (5.6 - 6.0)
If you use city water check the ph on a regular basis, as the ph can vary quite a bit depending on where you live, time of year, and water company fideling with it. Also city water adds chlorine and other 'stuff' that may affect your plants health. Not much you can do about that. Maybe let the water sit for a few days to allow the chlorine to evaporate befor giving it to your plants.
White Widow can be a bit fussy, I had to flush twice durring my grow as lock out was a major problem. Simply take your plant outdoors ( or even in your shower) and run about 15 to 20 gallons of ph adjusted water through the soil.
All in all white widow is a good strain, pickyness not withstanding. I grew mine to just over 4 ft. and with 7 plants I harvested just under 2 pounds.
