I'm just curious if anyone here's heard of Peak Oil. This is the idea that world oil production will max out and begin to decline. This will cause oil prices to skyrocket effecting the world's economies. There is lots more but I just want to know if there's gonna be a discussion or further interest.
Fossill fuels WILL run out eventually, that's not just an idea. The aftereffects of that (prices, availability, transportation, economy in general) will depend on how far we have advanced alternative energy sources.Quote:

New estimates put the peak between 2005-07. Some think it may have already happened others don't predict it until between 2010-2020. i'll put up sources as soon as sort them out.

We don't have nearly enough time to develop alternative energy sources and then convince people to use them and then integrate them into our society to the point where we could avoid disaster when economical petroleum production ends. I for one am looking forward to seeing industrial civilization collapse. I just hope it happens before we perfect genetic engineering and artificial intelligence, because those technologies scare the crap out of me.
actually peak oil is not a hoax to scare the americans lol it is happening they, haven't found any new oil "wells" and there scared but of coarse the goverment isn't doing anything my suggestion is if you drive a car start growing 5 soy plants indoors under lights and learn how to make bio deisel i for one prefer the bike and will continue to laugh in everyones face while they pay over a dollar a litre at the pumps oh P.S. be very afraid america is coming for you if you are a producer of the shit

i happen to think peak oil is a bunch of bs. i've read numerous mainstream stories over the years of giant reserves being found, the idea that we'll run out in the next 100 years even is absurd. still, i think we need to find something else to rely on that's a lot cleaner.
it's also a good excuse to make us pay more and more and more and more for oil.

The only things I have found have been European sources and offbeat internet news outlets. Also this is not a partisan issue. To address pisshead's argument that huge wells keep being discovered. An article published in Scientific American stated that new oil discoveries have been declining steadily since the 1960's. According to the article 90% of the earth's oil has been discovered. (http://dieoff.com/page140.pdf)
