i am starting a new grow and will start with fertilizer but when i need to start adding nutrients to water . i was wondering what do you uys recommend ? and also is timing correct to when add the nutrients about 3 to 4 weeks after after planting depending on pot size?
im going to be using fox ready soil , in double bucket systems with clones of ice and whitewidow . useing flourescents then to a 250 watt light inside a closet?

And yes, you are correct about the 3 to 4 weeks. That's usually how long it takes for the plants to initially use up the nutrients in the soil. But they will need less nutrients when younger, more when older. So even if you re-pot during flowering, it's still possible to add nutrients. The dosage depends on the soil used and the plants' needs (seedlings from the same strain may have different needs), so it's something you learn from experience.

If you are using Fox Farm ready soil, you do not need any more nutrients. There is already enough nutrients mixed right into the soil for the entire grow, just let the soil do what it is designed to do. Water with evaporated hose water every other day (2-3 cups) then after 1 month feed your plants a compost tea every 2 weeks for beneficial bacteria.

Again, bad advice. Watering schedules are dependent on the specific grow. The container should be watered to fully wet all of the soil, preferably with a little run-off to make sure. Then you need to wait until the soil is almost dry before watering again.Quote:

I suspect you have never tried this method of growing before bigtopsfinn, or you would know that growing outdoor in Fox Farm Ocean Forest using nothing but evaporated hose water and a compost tea is a completley effective and viable way to grow.
Fox Farm wants you to buy all of their extra liquid nutrients and their counterparts even though you don't need them. They are selling you snake oils that are 99% water and making tons of money by doing it.
Evaporated hose water is exactly what it sounds like. It is hose water that has been purified by way of natural evaporation (PH = 7.0). The trace minerals in the water are too heavy to evaporate, leaving you with a purified watering that is usually done from underneath the plant opposed to watering from the top, which increases overall growth of the plant as it searches for water opposed to just being given it. I water my outdoor plants with this method by using an Earthbox. Just fill up the resevior as needed. Usually 2-3 cups every other day for me....
big topsfinn is right about the ready-mix soil being too potent for seedlings. You need to germinate the seeds first, then root them in an alternate medium until ready to be transplanted into the ready-mix soil. I do this in rockwool underneath a Hydrofarm T12 Jump Start Light System, or simply out in the sun. Use organic Neem Oil for pests and you are good to grow.
The fact of the matter here lilbambam is that there is a million different ways to grow some good buds. It's all about finding what works for you. The above is an alternative organic way to grow, and it is easy as 1,2,3,4. Give it a try one season and you wont be dissapointed. :thumbsup:

after paper towel germination i always plant directly in foxfarm ocean forrest and never had any kind of problems with being too hot. also just foxfarm soil will not be adequate for an entire grow. it maybe adequate if you sog grow but not if you plan to veg out the plant then flower. but i have some sog going in foxfarm and noticed N deficiency during 5th week of flower.
