I think a great project for this board would be to compile info for growroom setup, based on the confines of being a Colorado caregiver - assuming 5 patients, plus the caregiver as a patient, at 36 plants.
Let's assume 2 spaces, 1 veg and 1 bloom, 10 x 10 x 8 - standardish bedroom sizes.
we can come up with hydro and soil systems. Maybe there are 10 great setups. Maybe you have a grow, but you'd change a few things - what would make your setup thd ideal setup? what is your dream grow room?
I'll start this off ;)
here's how I would like to re-set up.
veg:
4 banks of 6 T8's (cheap at lowes/homedepot ~80 plus bulbs)
passive air in, air out goes through hps lights in bloom.
flower:
4 or 5 600w (replacing 4 1k now - only running three atm b/c of summer heat)
I have an AC unit, but am not convinced it's more useful than setting up an economizer solution - venting indoor air when it's above a certain temp and the outside in below the same.
I am running CO2, at about 1100ppm. leaky room, so just using it for a push.
I'd like to see some standards set on edible rec's, specifically the useable limit. The state useable limit is so low it's hard to harvest more than several plants at a time. I don't see how it can be done easily in hydro as you will have too many different plant stages, hydro setup's and nute mixes. I have six different nute resovoirs just for soil and I custom tailor mixes from those six. Having to do a constant weekly perpetual harvest is lame but what other choice is there? monthly harvests? lol How am I suppose to give my 12/oz useable a week to dry and a week to cure and than a week to distribute to my patients? They have pretty much destroyed caregiving all together if you go by state rules, edible rec would help a lot though. My patients are fine with curing their own meds, with my help ofcourse. I'm going to split the cost on the hygrometers for them.
I pretty much have the same setup as you, 3k flower at the moment, 1500ppm's, 81-82 deg's, little hotter under the air cooled lights, sealed a/c, carbon scrubbers, t5x8, and 1000w mh running full time thanks to weekly perpetual harvests.
Super 33 tape seems to be the best with sealing air cooled hoods and even my modified a/c. I use the central air with just the recirc fan running to cool the dark cycle with the a/c unhooked and the scrubber pushing 300cfm+/- out while the central air works passively. This way I'm not running the dehumidifier much at night or a/c. :rastasmoke:
This has more to do with logic and timing, than equipment...
I think the key for running 30 plants will end up being a continuous grow of sorts. To prevent excess meds from building up at a once a month or every two month chop, you have to harvest fewer at shorter intervals.
If you can have 15 in flower you would probably want to cut 2 plants every 2 weeks or so. We did something similar when we had fewer patients. Soil, this would be easier, hydro more difficult. The ability to vary nutes and flush would be the issue there.
Don't keep mothers, and cut clones back when you move to 12/12.
You can get bonus 12/12 time by moving plants in a week to 10 days before you chop. The plants take that long to become "flowering" if you care about the veg/flower ratio.
You can also get a few days bonus when you cut clones back. Un rooted cuttings are cuttings, not plants. [I did the research there but don't be a fool and glean legal advice from the internets.] You may survive court, but it may end up taking you there because leo sees them looking like plants and wants to pad their huge "bust".
But yeah, in a home grow you could easily use CFL's or T8's for veg. You don't want them huge anyways. I have 12 3' S.A.G.Es veging under 2 4way CFLs.[ Just get 3 two way bulb adapters and put them together to make a 4 way.] They make almost as much light as the 4' 4 bulb T5's I have.
Build a clone machine out of a 5 gal bucket, pump and 1 on /4 off cycle timer so you don't heat up the res. You only will need to clone 2 or 3 at a time.
If you want to make gear cheap, ask me. I'm a tight ass when it comes to equipment. :smokin:
