Could anyone give me some insight as to some potential problems i might encounter from taking clones off an outdoor plants for an indoor grow and solutions for these problems. I expect there will be some insects/pests to look out for. Any good ideas to fix this? Also, is there anything different about cloning an outdoor plant to look out for? i.e. taking clones from different areas etc... Any info would be greatly appreciated :rasta:
ur fine. most of the insects and bugs are found in the soil. When you select your clone, just inspect it as closely as possible with a scope of some sort if your concerned about bugs. You only need the about 4 inches off the end part of a branch so as long as that site is clean and clear, you shouldn't worry too much.
There are lots of pictures on the net about taking clones. Look for them to get an idea of what your doing. In short you find a site at the end of a branch with new growth coming out. Drop down to the next set of leaves. They should be about an inch or so lower down the shaft. Drop down further along the shaft below the first good set of leaves, about 2 or 3 more inches (total length depends on your pots of course, but you will want about 3 or 4 inches of good plant growth above the pot, meaning you will need enough plant shaft to go to the bottom of whatever container your using). Make a cut at a 45 angle. You will find that rooting works faster if you lightly skin about 1/3 above the cut to the bottom. Basically your peeling back the outer skin of the clone along the bottom 3/4" so that the roots can have less difficulties poking through the tough outer skin. About 1/3 the shaft that is located under soil/water is the part needing skinned.
Keep in mind that not a single one of us started our growing hobby with a source plant originally located in doors. All plants originated outside at some point. The basic concept of taking plants inside or out from the other, is not in and of itself a bad thing. Each environment does have different variables and conditions to watch out for in terms of growing healthy plants, but either works fine and neither is contrary to the other. You may find that the plant doesn't like being moved inside and out more then a few times, but that's to be expected. Bottom line, if you want to move them indoors then fine, just don't expect to move them back out again in a timely manner. They will shock and need to readjust, but I'm way off topic and I know that's not what your asking.
