People don't know good weed in my area!

Im pretty new to smoking considering I've only gotten blazed about 4 times and the rest were little pleasant buzzes. I live in Western NY and my friend is the one who hooks me up with my stuff. He is a semi-stoner and has been around weed for quite awhile but i don't think anyone in my area knows what good weed is. I did a lot of research before i started smoking so i know many strains, differences between highs, flavors etc, but it just seems like no one knows what im talking about when i ask if i can get some high grade stuff. My friend hooks me up with 1/8th for about $40, and its mostly compacted, kind of green stuff. It's flat, you can barely see the THC crystals, so im guessing it's just mid grade. It gets me high but i want to get some green, good smelling, good tasting bud, but no one knows what they are really! They think all weed is the same kind of mids i have been talking about, which is really annoying because i know that there is much better stuff out there, but the "stoners" in my area don't really bother to look up stuff online. If someone could tell me how to put a picture in this post, you could maybe see what im talking about. Thanks!
