Depends on a few things. Stuff like:
What's your experinece level?
Is it a sativa dominate, or an indica dominate?
What kind of lighting can you provide a 4-6 foot plant (or taller)?
Do you have the headroom to grow a taller plant?
If accustomed to growing in 3 gallon pots, switching to 5'ers will throw-off your watering schedule, so you'll have to re-discover the optimal combination of water quantities and frequency to assure proper watering. Dilution rates and weekly application of nutrients are a constant, so you shouldn't have any changes there. (1 tsp per gallon per week is 1 tsp per gallonper week, regardless if in a 3 gallon pot, or a 5er)
Do not start the seedlings or clones in a 5'er. Transplant your way up to it, over time. (use the right size pot for plant size) My progression is from a paper twel, to 2 cup seedling pots, to 1 gallon nursery pots, to 3 gallon nursery pots, to 5 gallon nursery pots.
