First Time Growing. Tell me what ya think
Hello everyone! Been reading and taking advice off of these threads for some time now, so I decided I would let you all know with what you helped me accomplish so far this season. I am new to growing, and have loved every second of the tedious work and tasks I have had to learn how to do to keep these sexy ladies growing strong. I live in the Midwest, and am in the process of maintaining my first serious crop. Received the seeds in a purchased bag of very potent stuff, starting them out on lights somewhere in between April and May. Started seedlings on a mediocre light setup, transplanted to outdoor location.
Fertilizer= A 20-20-20 ratio. Strong I know, but I have been very careful and switching to 10-20-20 during flowering.
---Light= 10-12 hours a day
The only problems which I have experienced have been dealing with insects. They get a little bitten by crickets, and I have made homemade pesticides using different strengths of habanaro peppers, Serrano peppers, minced garlic, cayenne peppers, and vinegar. Worked pretty well, but I am in the process of making a cricket trap using Molasses, Vanilla, water and splash of lime/lemon juice.
Attached some pictures of the season so far. Here are is one partial life cycle of my Minnesota Homegrowns

The light is actually about 16 hours a day. Gets plenty of everything, morning, afternoon, evening.

They look nice an healthy bro:thumbsup:. You might want to dig out 2 of the smallest in the big pot. They will only compete and leave you with little yield. Plus the roots will get all tangled up and then later it would be very hard to separate them.
But other then that, they look great man, good luck:thumbsup:

i wonder if it will have a spicy flavor? j/k :eat:
that is smart thinking...i am wondering if the cig in the pic is an accident or did you do that for comparison?
lookin good

Ha, the cigarette was for comparison. And the small buds in the pot were pics of the plant when they were young. Unfortunately, I realized that something just ate the hell out of the bottom half of the leaves, they still have at least a month before harvesting, I am hoping that they may heal or whatnot. My pesticides did not work, going to try some organic type soap to keep these pests at bay

Here's a couple weeks later, plant is now standing at about 6 in a half feet tall easy, and I am hoping it will go into flowering mode soon. Still am having problems with something gnawing on my lower stem a bit, something still eating the lower flowers even after being treated with insecticidal soap and garlic/hot pepper spray, but the top 75% of my plant is doing great. Not sure what strength nutes to give once it goes into flowering, anyone have any personal favorite ratios?
Thanks !

Yup, cat tails, native to Minnesota wetlands. They don't explode naturally, but if you hit them when they are fully grown, they explode and fuzz goes everywhere. Also heard they are edible. The spot is really nice, soil and sunlight wise, but being next to a swamp, my nine to five job is trying to deter insects from my plant. Each day remove a beer bowl trap with 40 plus slugs, no exaggeration. Does anyone know what is happening to my stalk? Is a bug destroying them, or is it growing bark? I cant tell if these are pre-flowers either. So many questions, so many more years of knowledge to acquire... and completely off subject, picked this up at the store a while back, but has anyone tried this beer? DELICIOUS!
