How does one do this?

NOTE: I know this is a pretty long thread, but I have some serious questions and if anyone has the time or interest I would love to learn a few things!

Boy are we living an an exciting time! I never thought I would see the day where one could legally (technically) get medical care from Marijuana. It seems like we are on the brink of a Brave new World. With that said, I have a few questions and I was hoping some of you could either provide insight or point me in a good direction of informative resources.

I am a 23 year old, soon to be college graduate of Indiana University. For the past 5 years I have been studying to complete my bachelor degree in Computer Science. In the coming months I will finally get my degree and up until recently I was so afraid of what I would do in the "real world", I just didn't know what I wanted to do with my life. You know the saying that the true job for a person is a job they would do for free, and just until now I am able to honestly answer what that job would be for me: I want to provide the needy people with Marijuana.

I have seen first hand the effects of cancer on many family members who have since passed away, my Grandmother being one that will always stick in my mind from all the pain I saw her suffer. I now wonder just how much she would have gained from being able to use Marijuana legally here in the States. With that said, I feel this is something I want to take seriously and not only help people with their needs, but also support myself at the same time. I would eventually like to get good enough to open up a dispensary and grow my own product. I have dabbled in the horticulture of Marijuana in the past and have succeeded where many of my friends have failed and I can confidentially say I have some skills - which I am willing to do whatever it takes to perfect.

The way I see this probably panning out is first getting a card and legally grow the acceptable number of plants in order to perfect my skills and cultivate a product that patients will want. I would hope to be able to sell the product to a dispensary. Once I feel comfortable with my skills I would like to open up my own dispensary and go from there.

So to my main points...., I know it is NOT as easy as it may seem to get started in this new business. I understand laws are ever-changing and etc. But, where does one find out how to go about the following:

1) Finding a complete list of acceptable conditions in order to be approved for a medical license. I assume in order to do ANY of this I will need a card. I have had asthma since birth and I have read that people are getting approved in California - but I think Colorado or Michigan would be a better place for me. I also have bad back problems which have just began to be documented by physicians.

2) Is there any good books, websites, forums devoted to providing information on people wanting to go into this field of business? If so, the past few days of Googling has came up null.

Basically I am just here asking if anyone knows where I can get some legitimate information on how to do this? Again, I know it isn't going to be as easy and buying a warehouse and start growing/dispensing. Is there anyone here either already starting this journey or thinking about it? I plan on calling up some Medical Marijuana headquarters in different states and get some info tomorrow, but at the same time if any of you guys have any information it would be much appreciated!

I hate to make this too simple.... but you are putting the cart before the horse. Take a couple-three years and become an expert grower. THEN, see what opportunities exist as all of these laws unfold and are challenged during that time. Before you put a business plan together, fall in love with the plant and find out what it takes to grow fantastic medicine.

there are some classes in this, but likely a waste of your money (see greenway university). You'll learn more visiting dispensaries, reading here and other forums, and going to trade events. get a job as a peon at a dispensary if you can pull it off. It would be to your advantage to be a hot young girl.

If you come here, come with plenty of money (jobs are tight) and be prepared to work a real job for quite awhile. you will not move out here, set up a grow, and start making money.

Colorado also has (currently) a 2 year residency requirement for owning a dispensary.

Since you are at the beginning with this, you may want to research the other states as well....

Thanks for your insight. I honestly would say I am an experienced grower. I have dabbled in the hobby for about 4 years now and have tried a few different techniques and feel comfortable with my level of skill. However, I definitely understand I need to perfect the skills in order to provide a top shelf bud.

I do plan on having a normal job for the next few years, it would feel like a waste of a the past 5 years if i didn't. However I really would like to start now, atleast start somewhere. My philosiphy is if I want to legitimately do this some day I need to get in the game ASAP before the market becomes saturated. But yes...we need to see what happens in the coming years.

So do you guys think currently the best source of info are the state program facilities?

Another thing to keep in mind is grow equipment reselling.

It doesn't matter. It's so easy to obtain a recommendation these days, all you'd have to say is that your medical conditions cause your 'chronic pain', which is one of the health conditions approved.

Forget the asthma, focus on the health conditions allowed, chronic pain being the easiest to qualify with. It's absurdly easy to get legal, I would guess 95% of the applications list chronic pain as the medical condition.

You are saying that it's best to scam the system? Lie and commit fraud in order to get a license? Why not just go ahead and get a handicapped parking tag while you are at it?

Your reccommendation is the type of comment that caused this whole clusterfuck that we are dealing with now called HB10-1284 and SB-109.

If they don't have an actual qualifying condition, why not just reccommend that they become a caregiver and grow nonprofit for up to 5 patients. They can learn to grow, do it at home, and do something good for the patients.

Don't screw it up even more for the people that genuinely have a need by advising people to scam the med system.

That person quite obviously has a medical need for it, I was just offering a suggestion on the easiest course to get legal.

Until the rules are changed and 'chronic pain' is removed as a condition, then people will continue to 'game' the system. When doctor's become afraid to help people 'game' the system, this will continue.

These regulations don't really affect me, so I don't have an opinion on 1284 or 109. A20 makes it much too easy to qualify.

I'm going to go with the "make something up" advice. The requirements are so lax that they invite this kind of behavior. (Which is fine with me.) One more will make no difference. I would rather the state subject patients to too little scrutiny than too much.

all use is medical.

there are so many conditions that aren't covered, ie PTSD, ADD, depression,OCD, insomnia, panic attacks...

If there is another condition that one has which would qualify them, I don't see any problem using a secondary complaint as a legal reason to get a card, and then benefit the primary problem as well..

we can't get high and mighty about who gets a card. everyone can benefit from Cannabis medically!

while a ticket is cheap, a card can help you keep it off your record which can effect future job prospects, adoption/foster parenting, security clearances, etc. and if one wants to grow, you would have to be a stone cold moron to grow w/o being a card.

Get off your high horse. You are only around because of people like that. If everyone wasn't getting a license, you would not be operating legally.
