Anyone know when dispensaries started showing up in California?

Anyone know when medical marijuana dispensaries started showing up in California? What year approximately?

that is a good question, I would like to know, too. My guess would be 1994ish but I really have no idea. I remember first hearing about them a few years before Prop 215 in '96, but I wonder how long they really existed before they made the evening news. :detective1: anyone know??? maybe do a search on Dennis Peron. well guess he was busted in '78 after founding the Cannabis Buyers Club, a club that I am a proud member of. :cool: so maybe mid '70's?? anybody? Beuler? :rastasmoke:

LEGAL dispensaries first popped up in California after the passage of Proposition 215 in 1996. Before that, there was only ONE legal dispensary, and that was the one founded by the Feds for the Compassionate Use program (and I don't think that was in Cali, I think that was in Mississippi,) of which only 9 (or 10) people were allowed to enroll.

yes, LEGAL (by State Law, anyways) would not have been until after Nov. '96, but I think they were tolerated in SF long before 215 became the official state law. Not sure if that is what he meant or not.
