District Attorney Pete Hautzinger confirmed today that a Mesa County grand jury is investigating a large-scale, local marijuana-grow operation.
??I asked if they were interested, they said they were, and the investigation is active and ongoing,? Hautzinger said.
While Hautzinger declined to specify the target of the investigation, the DA has previously said he was still weighing a charging decision related to a March raid by Western Colorado Drug Task Force Officers at a medical pot-grow operation owned by local Realtor Sid Squirrell, located at 573 W. Crete Circle.
Hundreds of records for medical marijuana patients were seized and copied, while authorities at the time said they were weighing whether the number of valid patients associated with Squirrell and a local dispensary justified a grow operation with more than 100 marijuana plants, an enterprise still illegal under federal law.
Squirrell has declined numerous requests for comment
Did you catch the federal involvment? Quote: Still illegal against federal law. Like I had said last month when they said the 70/30 dispenaries and the large grow operation that would be required by them. Anyway you look at it 1 plant or 12 million plants it is all against federal law. I am willing to wager that in the near future the DEA is going to let everyone know marijuana is still against the law and more and more dispencaries will be raid and growers, owners and managers will go to jail
