The Hawaii medical marijuana law has this provision concerning how much mj a cardholder can have at any one time.

The qualifying patient and primary caregiver jointly may not possess more than an â??adequate supplyâ?� which shall not exceed a total of three mature marijuana plants, four immature marijuana plants, and one ounce of usable marijuana per each mature plant."

My question concerns the "usable" mj one can have. When a mature plant is harvested, it will have produced 10 - 15 ounces of usable marijuana. So do you only harvest an ounce at a time to comply?

Good question!

Complicated by things like wet vs dry weight, curing time, seed weight, stem weight, blah X3.

Even doing stepped harvests leaves one with an embarrassment of riches as new bud enters the drying process.
Best ya can do is get rid of stems and un-useable fan leaf straight away.
Then, dry and freeze the sugarleaf and popcorn buds rapidly. Then convert them to bubble hash in small batches.
That can compress your meds 10:1!:cool:

The hash is the same as bud, or schwag, in the eyes of the law.
So...:cool:

Also, it's a good trick to yield an elbow from most strains when grown outdoors this close to the equator.
Our nights are too long all year, and most strains will flower while still quite small.
Unless you extend their daylight hours with lights to keep them vegging longer, that is.:thumbsup:

In actual practice here, as long as you don't have "large amounts", or get caught selling, one need not worry much.:rastasmoke:

However, it is not legal to sell, or even give away excess meds, even to other patients.:wtf:

So, I now severely limit the size of my garden.:(
That is to service the letter of the law.

May not be a big deal here, but I like to stay squeaky clean.

Imagine a state with MMJ laws created by some lawmaker that never grew, let alone smoked Cannabis. Now you have Hawaii's MMJ law. The D.A.'s here know they are working with a flawed law. I have yet to see them go after anyone that is following the spirit of the law.

The definition of a mature plant is a plant that has flowers that can be seen with the eye. When I first started to grow legaly I asked the Maui D.A. to define "mature". They never got back to me. They have yet to go after anyone with too many "mature" plants. If you keep your plant count to seven or less, I have yet to see them split hairs over if a plant is Mature or not.

There are many loopholes in Hawaii MMJ law. Last year, the legislature voted to set up a task force to upgrade Hawaii's MMJ laws. The Govenor did not release the money for the effort so we still have the the same flawed laws on our books. They will remain there until we get rid of Lingle terms out this year. After she is gone we will go back to following California a couple of years behind, like we always have.
