Oregon Public Health Advisory Board meeting planned for Friday, June 4:

Judith Monroe, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, will be special guest



The Public Health Advisory Board (PHAB) will hold its quarterly meeting to discuss such issues as the state budget, health care reform, legislative priorities, and the health effects of sugar-sweetened beverages.

The meeting is open to the public.

Who: Judith Monroe, MD, FAAFP, will be the special guest for "Lunch with a Leader." Monroe is the director of the Office of State. Tribal, Local and Territorial Support Centers, a newly created office of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Among the topics Monroe will discuss are the role of public health advisory boards and the CDC's winnable battles on tobacco, nutrition, obesity, injury, unintended pregnancies and HIV prevention.

What: Oregon's Public Health Advisory Board is a 15-member body appointed by the Governor. It serves as an advisory body to the Oregon Health Policy Board. The PHAB advises the Oregon Health Policy Board on policy matters related to the operation of the Oregon Health Authority, provides a review of statewide public health issues, and participates in public health policy development.
