Boycott the Aurora Mall

If you have not yet looked at the thread regarding one of our members and the Aurora Mall I encourage you to do so.

I'm looking for a few people who would like to help me organize a boycott of the mall until a formal apology to Jake (member involved) from the mall and the police stationed there has been given in a public manner, press conference style. I would really appreciate someone with experience doing this kind of thing to point me in the right direction. Thanks guys. Let's keep the momentum!

I've done some calling to the mall today. I've called Dillards, JC Penny, and the mall itself. None of them seem to care. I'm guessing they'll start to once they start to lose BIG money.

i think a good quick way to get a ton of attention is get a billboard spot on i25 or close to the mall....i have'nt went to the mall since 97 last time i was at one was when i was a teen.i was a gameroom mgr,and everyone that worked in the mall would end up coming in on their breaks.the leo station was right next door to the gameroom.i would see the bs they would pull everyday.their was only 1 gaurd outta the whole bunch i was friends with.he was a body builder we used to go workout together.he was cool and did'nt act like the rest.which is odd cause most meatheads are full of themselfs.he was a marine too.but most workers in the malls are cool just there to make a living.

the mgr's tho are on a power trip and they love to work with the gaurds.everything in the mall is marked up 100% it's a waste of money only place i do go if i have to is book stores if there is'nt one not connected to the mall close by.

I'm not sure if I should be replying to this thread or the other one, but what the heck does the fact that this kid have a MMJ license have to do with anything else in that story at all?

It's a lousy situation, and I don't support the first contact (assuming it was entirely just cuz of the kid's t-shirt)...but even considering the horrible lack of details I'm working with, it kinda looks like the kid started acting like an obnoxious punk when approached, and that's always only going to escalate things...which is what happened. I'm not surprised.

What I am, tho, is offended by the line, "Apparently being a card caring patient makes no difference to the Aurora police." It shouldn't make any difference to the Aurora police in this matter. Can you imagine how egregious it would be if they allowed someone to wear that shirt simply on the basis that they were a card holder...but if you're not a card holder, sorry, no pro-pot shirts for you. I'd be first in line to boycott the mall in that case.

The reason him being a patient was mentioned is because the police told him he was advocating something illegal. He mention, for him it was legal, since he had his card. The officer just made a snide remark.

Him being a card holder does not give him the right to wear the tee shirt, the First Amendment does and the Colorado supreme court upheld that in 1991. Also Miguel Lopez, marijuana activist, had similar experience at a Denver Mall. He was harassed because of his view.

Also this is really not about a kid but a 28 year old man, that works hard, pays taxex and votes. His rights were violated and if we let this stand what could be next. I am sure they would not be happy with anyone handing out pro marijuana pamphlets in the mall prior to the November vote in Aurora to decide if they will allow dispensaries.

We have the right, a mall is not private property. I am sorry that your were offended but how would you feel if you were taken to a polcie substation just because you refused to turn your shirt inside out. I am a patient as well, and this man's mother. He did not bring up his medical standing till the police questioned it's legality. He feels he is an activist not only standing up for his own rights but everyone elses.

I respect your opinion, and hope you will learn more about this as the story will unfold. This is not about medical marijuana but about the freedom to express your views in a public forum without creating disturbance.

Okay, so YOU are the one bringing it up in the completely irrelavent manner? It shouldn't matter that he's a card holder, it doesn't matter that he's a card holder. There's plenty of battles mmj patients already face, no sense turning non-mmj issues into mmj issues.

Aurora mall is missing two out of the three. And that was the entire basis for considering Westminster mall "public".

Whoa now. They could stop people from handing out literature all they wanted and that's not a freedom of speech issue. Neither is this t-shirt thing. The security guards at Aurora Mall do not represent the government, on any level. You really can't compare this to the 1991 case when the defining characteristics of the 1991 case are missing in this case.

The Aurora Mall is owned by Simon Property group. It is 100% private property minus the (mini) police station.

The moment he/you/whomever brings up patients rights, this is no longer for everyone's rights, but patients. The situation is best described as a freedom of speech issue (even tho, as mentioned, it in no way violates the 1st Amendment)...it is not an MMJ issue.

You can't ignore the crux of my point and think you're still making a point of your own.

I'm almost positive the security guard would say he was acting like an obnxious punk kid, regardless of how this guy actually was acting...so I'm willing to bet you make really lousy bets.
