Hello. So I have 2 kush plants growing in my closet that is about 8ft x 2ft. They are both almost 2 months old and are growing in 5 Gallon buckets with holes drilled in the bottom. I can see small roots coming through the holes, was wondering if it is nessecary to transplant into bigger pots ?Any help is appreciated!
5 gllon pots should be plenty. Generally you figure 1 gallon per foot of plant heighth.

i would say 5's are big enough...you can feed them whatever they need for the flower cycle....and if you are not already in flower you better start because i know when my plants vegged for 3 weeks they were approaching 4' tall so depending on your lighting and growth rates....usually plants will double and even triple in height when put into flower...jm .02 :D
Excellent thank you! That leads to my next question, which is ,Are these plants ready for flowering? I have the main stems starting to grow A-symmetrically towards the top, roots reaching the bottom of the bucket and they are stinking up my closet. Both plants are a little more than 18 inches tall I only took pictures of one plant, both are exactly the same strain and size. They both have 4 main tops and very thick stalks. This is a CFL grow so im not reaching full potential but i have 8 x 26watt, 6500k cfls, They have been vegging since March 14th and it is now May 2nd. I have about another 6 feet of headroom so im not too worried about that, I will keep them in veg for as long as needed to reach maximum yeild:thumbsup:
Peeking over the edge of your bucket... it looks like you could slip the rootball out, add about 6 inches of soil, and replace rootball. Make sure the rootball is dryperhaps do this before your next scheduled watering. (wet soils fall apart) Measure first. If you have 6 inches of room at the top, add 4 or so inches of medium (with extra perlite if possible) under the rootball. Replace and water. Be sure to leave an inch or two at the top for watering.
Done right, you can keep a plant in the growth stage for years.
The longer you let them grow, the higher their requirements will be for flowering. Rootbound (restricted nutrient and moisture uptake) and light issues (stretching, mid and lower leaf neckrosis) might pose a problem if you let them continue too much longer.
Sounds good , thank you for the advice! I think I will let them grow maybe another 6 inches or so then switch it over to flower. and definitely throw some more soil under there.
Try and be careful with the rootball. Both hands, and be careful not to break a branch. If the rootball should happen to fall apart, make-up for the missing soil in the pot before replacing.
There will be a little space between the bucket and the sides of the rootball. Shoehorn (push) the rootball to one side, and fill the empty space with soil, or keep rootball centered and try and use something to push some fresh soil down around the perimeter, or the water will just drain-out down the sides. :thumbsup:
