This is one of those subjects people tend to disagree on. :D
I've read a few threads where people swore their potency had dropped after a few runs.
However, I've seen FAR more grows where a person cloned off the plants about to go into the flower room over and over for years without any issues.
I'd say it's not likely to be a big problem though. If your concerned, keep a bonsai mom. :thumbsup:
I started some seeds back in chicago about 3 years ago. My friend and i were cloning every subsequent generation without keeping a mom. We would just take a dozen or so cuts before they went into flower (usually from the lower growth we were pruning anyways), and I can say for sure that in 3 years which would probably amount to a clone of a clone 20 times, that we didn't notice any change in heartiness or drop in potency.
I think if people are noticing a decline in clones over time, they should check their system and habits rather than blaming degraded genes.
I'm sure someone around here can chime in and put my 3 year run to shame. I have heard of a decade or better with no problems. It really all boils down to the ability of the individual rather than the plant, IMHO.
A clone is an exact genetic replica. It is a genetically impossible for the quality/potency of the plant to degrade. The variables like quality of the cutting, how it is being cloned, how it is being grown, etc...that will effect it.
Look at your variables if you are finding problems.

Not entirely true. Cloning is a method of analog reproduction, and as the strain continues it's possible that a mutation occurs. This gets exaggerated heavily as you keep cloning down the line. It can lead to a decrease of potency or plant vigor, or it can lead to an increase. Mutations are unpredictable and can occur at any time without warning.
This happens in strains that haven't been stabilized.
