A Denver attorney says he will give free representation to pot-smokers ticketed at the unsanctioned 4/20 marijuana smoke-out at CU+

In a letter to the executive director of CU's chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, Robert Corry promised free legal representation to any CU student who is peacefully participating in Tuesday's protest and is ticketed for possessing marijuana or paraphernalia.

"This offer does not include any individual involved with violence, or disrespect of police or other university officials," the letter says.

Corry, in the letter, cited a Camera article that reported CU Republican Regent Tom Lucero said school officials should do a better job policing the annual event.

Police say possession of less than an ounce of marijuana is a petty offense and carries a maximum $100 fine. Campus leaders have said they will consider ticketing people walking to or from the Norlin Quad and who are caught smoking or possession pot.

Last year, about 10,000 people gathered for the smoke-out.
