N.Y.C. cops write 3,753 tickets for talking or texting while driving
In one day! Go get em pigs! I think in recent years every time I've been cut off on the road or just seen some extremely stupid driving it has been from someone on a cell phone..
NEW YORK -- Police have sent a message to more than 3,700 drivers they said were talking or texting behind the wheel -- Hang up. The New York Police Department issued 3,753 summonses for using hand-held cell phones while driving during the first 18 hours of a daylong crackdown Thursday. Each ticket carries a fine of up to $150.
The department said it issued an average of 617 summonses a day last year for cell-phone offenses.

On one hand, texting while driving is bad, but it seems like that's a LOT of manpower dedicated to a relatively small problem.

It's bittersweet.
All those tickets in one day would suggest financial greed, not the desire to protect but who knows anymore.
On the other hand, I understand the need to get that issue under control. I don't live in New York, but it's just as bad in California. I was rear-ended while sitting at a red light, by someone traveling 65 mph and texting while driving. I was shoved into the middle of the intersection, and crashed into the side of a truck that had the green light. It hurt quite a bit and kinda pissed me off.
