You will not get thrown in jail, but you will get ripped off if cought.
The police will steal your weed, and try to get some money.
You can get away with giving them 1 or 2 thousand colones (5 to 10 dollars, 6 years ago, have not been there since) one time I got cought I gave them 1000 colones and they gave me my weed back. all the other times they stole my money and weed.
The bottom line is if cought only offer them a little bit of money and say its all you have. they might try to bother you for a bit trying to get more money, just sit and refuse to pay any more than a small amount. they will never touch you in a violent way, just harrase you for money.
