Elaine Betts took care of her family and friends, took care of her neighborhood. I know, because she used to live on my block, before she bought a little house a few blocks away and started taking care of that neighborhood.

When she was diagnosed with cancer last year, she continued to take care of others -- sending a reassuring note that she'd had a good, long, interesting life, and that we should not worry about her. She took care of herself, too, and in early October sent her application for a medical marijuana card to the state via registered mail.

That card finally arrived a few days ago -- more than five months after Elaine had applied, and over two months since she died. (see link for complete story)

The State especially the Board of Health should be ashamed how they are handling this! think of all the funds that they are collecting, they should really hire some folks to do this.:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

This why I'm against states being involved in any way with MMJ. The card system is terrible in every state that uses it. A doctors signed MMJ authorization is all that shoulb be required. You don't have to go get state card to get your prescriptions do you?

this is very sad....it's terrible that she wasn't able to get the relief of MMJ in her final days.....rest in peace, Elaine

I stopped at a dispensary recently, showed them my red card, and the guy looked at me in awe. "we don't get many of these!"

they can't live up to the regulations that are in place, and have been in place for 10 years. We're about to be on a quickly sinking ship.

BTW, how are they going to fund the ramp up to all of this red tape they are proposing? Who's budget is going to pay for all of this regulation and the computer systems and the staff, before they collect a dime in fees from anyone? What a pack of short sighted knee-jerk idiots we've elected.

The good thing is, when they get this in (July 2011, right?) and things get all fucked up.... there are going to be 200,000 Coloradoans on the registry by then.
