Well I just dealt with some fems that looked strange as the flowering occurred. Kind of stretched out, strange short thin pistils, and almost yellow pods they came from. It was a new species to me, so was not particularly concerned. Well I been sick the last 2-3 weeks with heart trouble and I got lax on looking at the garden. Yesterday I was doing a good look and found bunches of green 'nanners, and a few open ones. UGH! Throws my whole garden all out of wack!

I think what I ended up with is a pair of true hermaphrodites, as both were growing a lot of green male pods and as I said, they looked strange. Both are dead, and I harvested the pollen.
Will the pollen, if crossed with a stable female, ........rephrase.......
What crosses come out? Female%, Male%, TrueHermie%?
I have seen the genetics for true fem/fem cross, male/fem, not herm/fem crosses. What would I expect from say 100 seeds for a round number? This is over my wee little brain's abilities.

Any missed schedules, light leaks or extreme temperature fluctuations during your rough spell? (hope you're doing better now) Any reason at all you can think of that may have stressed them into throwing-out nanners?
Because either your strain was stressed by something, or they are weak genetics.

Have you grown this strain before with success? If no problems on past grows, and your genetics are (were) quality...I'd say you likely have some inadvertant femmed seeds.

If truly damaged genetics, consider them 100% hermie and be more careful with your meds next time, lol. But seriously, next time you can re-veg the "nannered ones". If they re-veg as proper ladies, the genetics are likely fine. (seeds from weak genetics can not be re-vegged into being a lady, btw)
The only way to tell without the re-vegging, (and cloning the resultant shoots) is to grow the seeds out. Expect the worst, and grow-out some quality beans at the same time though...just in case. :thumbsup:
Clean all the surfaces in your growroom with a weak bleach solution if possible. Besides being time for spring cleaning, the pollen will hang around a while.

Ya Rusty, I got to thinking about all this on days off the medicine where I cannot think clearly. New plant to me, very new. I have heard the breeder may have some probs with instability. This time I think it was me. Long story, but if you follow what I have been doing over the last month, it all makes sense to me anyhow.
I added that extra UVb with the 400 watt. That put one side of the garden closer to my light leak area by 2 feet. That must have been the threshold, because all my plants in the extra 2 foot area got the hermies.
I am working on a clone now from the original mother, so I have the plant still growing and will be able to prove if all this is correct.
If you remember we had the spat over the light picture in the 'bible' that had a plant half in flower and half not, well, there must be a specific number of lumens that causes the breakover, and I hit that amount.
But, I have a small supply of pollen from this :thumbsup: and I hit my awesome Haze on one branch with some. It should make something kick ass. I love that kind of playing around too. That is the hobby part.
It is clear to me that my lack of attention due to these damn poisons the docs make me take were directly related to this happening. (In particular statin drugs). One pill makes you larger, one pill makes you smaller..........
I spent yesterday making a new door and blocking all light leaks. I clean so often it is the cleanest place in my whole house..lol.
Going to be in Tucson Thurs thru Sunday, I hope the weather is nice and warm and sunny! Up in the Catalina Foothills area.

Nope, fixed all the problems and regrew via a clone from the original and it too grew to herme. Killed it dead this time and all babies. At least it didn't fertilize the whole garden, will have some nice crosses with White Widow, RMT (a breed of mine), Strawberry Cough, and a Haze. The seeds out of the RMT are fricking huge ... at least the 2 found so far; light brown with occasional dark irregular spots. Unlike any seed I have seen before.
Along the way deliberately fertilized one of everything to make sure I get a cross. There are advantages to having a little pollen.

Yup, it sucks getting unsuitable genetics. I've got a Shishkaberry that every 6th female plant goes hermie...yet it's sisters finish without incident. I just grow a couple of extra, and cull the transvestites. The strain is good enough to overlook it's deformity, but I only grow it once a year.
I believe exposure to light releases a chemical signal to the plant that it's time to get-up and go to work. Likely the released chemicals screw with the sleeping beauty, who is now expecting a little photosynthesis action, but getting none. Likely this makes her a little confused and grumpy. (stressed to the point of nanners) But I'm not a biologist, and this is the simplest way I can think of to explain the plant's response to light leaks.
Once a lower stress threshold is imprinted on the getetics, likely best to toss the offspring, or sell 'em on a seed auction website like everyone else. <kidding>
Fertilizing provides nutrients, pollinating provides seeds. :thumbsup:
