propylene glycol

Anyone ever hear of using propylene glycol as a cannabinoid solvent/menstruum?

i looked into it once, and i dont think you can extract the THC into that. But it does mix with alcohol readily, and alcohol has a lower boiling point, so if you extract into alcohol, then mix with propylene glycol, and then evaporate the alcohol off, then you should be left with a pretty clean product, whatever that may mean as far as propylene glycol is concerned.

That method, using glycerin rather than propylene glycol, has been discussed here & elsewhere. Iirc, as the ethanol evaporated, the hash oil didn't dissolve into the glycerin, but precipitated out into little globs of hash oil floating in the glycerin. I don't recall anyone saying they got it to work.

Which is not to say that it couldn't...

PG is a form of alcohol itself so it can extract the goodies out of wacky tobaccy just fine along with a bunch of other things which are soluble in alcohol. Many commercial flavoring tinctures use the stuff. Not as quick as high proof and high dollar Everclear but will get the job done. Heat helps speed it up. Not quite sure how the thread got swung over to hash making but doubt it be good for that purpose. What it would take to make it evaporate I am clueless. Heat and air most likely:)
