I run a ebb and grow system, using hydroton as a medium. I use strictly 3 part GH nutes. I have five years (on and off) experience, and I have some white bugs, they look like small pieces of thin white thread maybe an eighth inch long. They almost look like they are in a group or school when I pull the pot out of the pail and a to some extent almost motionless. When I touch the top of the school of bugs the scoot in every direction. What are they, and how do I get rid of them?

Possibly fungus gnat larvae? (Have you seen any adults?)
If that's what they are, I believe the organism in "mosquito dunks" is effective against them. (Bacillus suppin, I think...)
Yea, they're larvae, that must be it. They're ON TOP of the water, not swimming in it. Haven't seen any adults. My only problems in the past have been spidermites and powdery mildew. I still have not gotten rid of the spidermites, but I have them under control. I am just in the process of graduating some new girls after harvesting this morning. I've pumped out the nutes, but am not loading new girls into the system until I know what I am fighting. If it's some kind of a larvae, and I pick up some mosquito dunks, will it show me directions on how to use it in hydroponics? Is it available at grow shops, because I use a nursery supplier that doesn't know much about hydroponics.Quote:

GH has AzaMax. It's the concentrate of neem oils. We were just fighting two spotted spidermites and losing with dr doom bombs. Guy at hydro store says use this. You spray once then in ten days and then at twenty days. They are gone and eggs are dead. No signs at all. Nice new growth.
When you spray the plants just a litle spritz on the water will take care of larvae too. It does it all and at a real cheap price compared to the damage.
