Anyone starting veggies soon?

Sorry if I'm in the wrong group, I found it very ironic there is NO Gardening sub in the Lounge section! I was also thinking recipes since veggies are food, but that does not make them a medicinal recipe. Elders, I beg your mercy and please re-route my post if necessary please. Thanks.

Here in the States is time or soon time to get those seeds a nice head start. The Peppers take a bit longer and need warmth. I'm doing Fushimi, Shishito, and Italian peppers and a few Tomato. Rockwool went fastest. Catnip and Basil. A veg room with plenty of 4 footers is practically made for this! Also cloned some Christmas cactus just for hoots.

Anyone else can chime in?

Yep, I have some Basil and Tomatoes already in 3 1/2" coco and happily getting established as well!

Hi group,
I thought just to spice things up I'd post some pix of the veggies so far. That is only a pun as these peppers are not hot or only very mildly hot. The peppers were stubborn to come up so I put a crock pot filled with water under them to warm things up. Peppers seem to need that and it still took almost two weeks to break the surface.

I'll also include some stock photos of Fushimi and Shishito peppers as they are not well known other than in Japanese or other Asian cuisine. They are best enjoyed lightly grilled or raw on/with salads. Kitazawa seeds in CA has the best selection of special Asian veggie seeds:

Just an update @ almost 4 weeks since seed touched soil. :eek:
They just got their first MILD dose of MG AP. (all purpose) :dance:

Also a veggie pic, the Rockwool ones are a bit further along. The Italian peppers are already making flowers so they have to go into the outside vegetable garden soon. In fact, as a test :weedpoke:, I took one "average specimen" of each plant and put them straight into the garden with no hardening off. It rained all day here in the south west desert so they are looking good a day later. So far so good.

A smart indoor grower will always have the same amount of veggie plants as he does mj plants. If somone comes knocking just rip out mj ,place veggie plants on top of dirt in buckets. put mj in trash bags in a hidden compartment. If asked . Reply getting ready to transplant veggies into buckets...

I hate that rain man! Lol, we only get it a few times a year and it's usually cool but this rain the past two days came ill-timed. I just fertilized my outdoor plant and the next day the rain goes and flushes it all out! Good luck with the veggies, I'm going to start mine next spring when the planters are all built and ready...

Well it looks like we dodged a bullet with that next rain we were supposed to get earlier this week. I thought redtails would be happy about that. I always like more rain than the merger few times a year we usually get a little. I like a green desert too, in more ways than one! :gunfighter2:

We are going to need more veg room space so lots of peppers/tomatoes went out in the garden. Several others are going to friends/family. The transplanted ones are doing great with no hardening off so most rest of them went out for this warm spell we're getting now. It's almost up to 80 deg! :woohoo:

Just for the sake of closure I posted a few pix of the veggies outside in their new home. I'm not saying that like it's ended, just the start of another chapter. Out here, with my shade cloth which doubles as a frost protection, I can keep some peppers for YEARS! You have not heard the last of the Japanese peppers gang. PEPPER! PEPPER! PEPPER! :clap:

Haha, no I do like that we're finally getting the rain we need, I was just upset at myself for not knowing it was coming through the day after I fertilized...It's all good to me. Yeah I've had the clone outside for a while now and the few 40 degree nights haven't done anything but brown up a few pistils so far. I just hope it can continue flowering outside in early spring, supposed to be early-mid april harvest and the buds just started frosting up the other day.

The garden looks great Oc, can't wait till I plant mine now!

True dat Redtails about the rain. It always seems to come after washing the car, fertilizing, spraying weeds, etc. I have a feeling we won't see much rain again unitl late summer when the monsoons (thunderstorms) arrive.

The pics show noticable growth on most. The ones at 4 weeks (see file name on first pic below) were stunted by too much sun until we folded down the shade cloth. Only one died, it looked like a bug chopped it at the stem. the 3 week area never gets direct sun and is doing well.

Soil Ph was high, above 8. Amonium Sulfate was added to instantly lower soil PH and give a nice shot of 21-0-0 N for the spring time. I also added Sulfur for longer term adjustment. They are looking very nice and dark green except for a few that yellowed from all the watering after the applications above.

If you wanted to raise the Ph you'd rather add some lime.
