Grow Room Newbie, brief help please
I'm about to start building my first grow box (in a speaker, CFLs) for my first ever grow. I'm coming into it a bit blind, but have been following links around different forums for a few days trying to pick up some information, and taking loads of advice from rollitups FAQ. However, I have run into a few questions already, and am hoping I can get them answered, although I suspect they may be questions of the frustrating type, please be patient, I'm awful at this sort of thing.
1) For a carbon filter, I've seen some instructions for how to make my own, but I was wondering if taping an activated carbon filter (from a fish shop or wherever) over my exhaust would be adequate for odor dissipation.
2) For ventilation, do I need more than an exhaust fan? I plan to rig a computer fan for exhaust as it's not a terribly big box, but was wondering if an intake fan was requisite or if I could just mount a length of PVC with a 90º elbow for air intake. Would this work adequately, and would this need its own carbon filter to eliminate smell permeation.
I'm very sorry if this is covered numerous times throughout the forum, I have looked.

Lets see if my old-self can be of some assistance :)

Yeah... it might work.
My suggestion, don't do it over the exhaust fan.
I would suggest you build your own (or buy one), and have a separate, dedicated fan pulling/pushing air through it.
It is ideal, yet NOT necessary to have this carbon filter "in line" with your air circulation.
Explaining my self: If you have your grow room with x number of fans, just place the carbon air filter in the same room.
It'll filter the air... I know you're thinking that if the fan isn't "in line", air that is "smelly" will escape.
Well, yeah... but if you have your filter in the room, running 24/7... it'll just filter out those smells.
Just try it out!
(( IMHO, build one! And use a 'fart fan' to pull/push the air ))
It'll be adequate enough... my 0.02 :)

I suggest you use "passive intake", which is saying that you only have an "exhaust" fan.
The exhaust fan will take your old air out, and pull new air in.
Your proposed fan setup could be enough... only trial and error will tell.
If your computer fan is not enough (as I suspect), I suggest buying a "fart fan" and placing that one as exhaust.
They relatively cheap (<$40).
Hope this helps!!
I'll check later this thread to see if any more questions come up :)
