What kind of setup is able to produce 3lbs per month?

Debating back and forth with a like minded friend of mine and we both agree on alot of things when it comes to growing. We're talking/arguing about what a decent grow can produce and the costs, etc.... We are differing on a couple of things;

What kind of system does it take to produce 3 lbs per month or every other month of respectable med?

I say it take a nice sized hydro system or even a soil grow with at least three 1000 watt lights for flowering and three 1000 watt MH for vegging with twenty plants at any given time under each set. And have a perpetual grow going to produce that amount of meds with seedlings or clones/vegg/flower going at any given time.

I think it can be done in a couple of grow tents in a garage with the proper lighting ventilation, he thinks not.

He believes it would take twice that amount in both plants and lights and could only be done with a hydro system on a monthly basis and that a soil grow couldn't reach that level on even an every other month basis.

What would be the minimums necessary to produce that amount on a monthly or every two month period?

Our other debate is what strains are best for something like this. I say Northern Lights and G13. He thinks an Sativa/Indica hybrid would be a better type of plant for this kind of grow, no specific strains.

Now to produce this weight every month. You'd need to start one plant, via this method, every month, until you finish the first plant. You'd need two rooms as well. One to grow and one to flower.

So, from what I've gathered you need to either plan to have say 12lbs every 4-5 months with one room, OR you can have, or run, multiple rooms. Such as one to grow and one to flower. Giving you a new crop every 55-80ish days.

Depending on strain, lighting, grow technique, nutes,.....

MOST people hope and pray for 1lbs per plant. Many pull it off, but not all.

Also it takes a good size plant to produce those numbers. This means lots of time vegging.

So, to produce a pound every month, you COULD do it with a single plant. Start another plant every month. After around 2 months your first plant will be ready to flower. A pure Indica can flower in as little as 55 days from what I've read. Sativa is more like 12 weeks.

That's what I think it would take to produce 3 lbs per month either soil or hydro in a grow tent or seperate rooms. My buddy thinks it can only be done with twice the lights and on a hydro system alone.

So, you want to produce 3 lbs every one month.

You need 2 rooms.

First one is all blue lighting like Fluorescent or MH. You start your ?? number of plants in room 1 to grow them to the desired height. This alone takes anywhere from NO time(if you throw clones into flower and have no height to grow in), OR can take a year to grow a large bush.

Only you know what space you have is my point here.

A standard plant in someones grow room MIGHT reach 2-3 feet before they start it flowering. That takes around two months.

THEN, when you put it into flower under the HPS lighting you can move it to the flower room. This room does nothing but 12/12 under the red light of HPS. Each plant needs around 2.5 square feet of floor/table space for light penetration.

Once in this room it will take anywhere from 55 days to 12 weeks to be finished.

Humidity, nutes, temperature, CO2, lighting and strain will determine your yield.

The only way to produce that amount EVERY month would be to have four rooms going or a large enough flowering room with lighting to have two stages of flowering or do what most do and accept that this takes around four months to complete a grow and finish one every two months while running two stages. Grow and Flower.

Basically I think your question is far to broad to really answer. You want 5000 lumens per square foot. I don't remember the PAR numbers.

I read a thread about a SOG grow. This guy puts rooted clones directly into flower. He starts five clones every week. After 8-12 weeks he had around 3 ounces every week as long as he started new ones every time he pulled finished ones.

Point is,.. Every grow is different. Every strain is different. Your schedule is REALLY different. :D

So kinda hard to say on what you've given.

With lots of money and lots of space you could produce 3 lbs every week. You'd have a lot of plants going on different schedules though.

Okay, I know HOW to grow, I'm asking a very simple question. How many lights and plants to produce 3 lbs per month? Thats all.

I think it would take 2 rooms or tents, 3 1000 watt lights in each room/tent, twenty plants in each room. One room is MH, one room is HPS.

Someone else has a different opinion than I and we're trying to come up with the most accurate answer. Thats all I'm after, what would it take, all else being equal, would it take to produce 3 lbs per month, every month. Forget the strain part, etc...

Using the type of grow system you are speaking of, (I already do this, just not at this size), you need to know the production of a give species on the average.

For example I don't let any of my stuff get over 4 feet tall. I have indica and sativia genotypes, some strong in each category. I still get about 1.5-2 ounces of dried bud, never weigh out the trim, which I use for the beginnings of cannabutter.

So, at 20 plants in the flower room, if you want to continue taking out a certain amount every week, say 2 per week, then that gets you4 oz a week.

The point is, you have so many variables in plant production, size, type, veg time, etc, no one can honestly answer that question with the information provided.
