Upgrading from a DIY setup and need some lighting input

After my second grow I'm graduating from my self made everything rubbermaid grow box with CFL's. I've done good so far, getting over an ounce each time out of the plants in my super small 1x1x3 foot container.

Now I'm not sure whether or not I should spend over $200 on lights and get a system that can do both MH and HPS or if I should just get what looks like a nice $80 system of the same wattage but can only do HPS. I know that just having HPS wouldn't be ideal but maybe I could hang up a couple 42 W full spectrum CFL's in the chamber during veg and possibly even throughout the grow. The extra cost of those CFL's running instead of just the one MH or HPS bulb would be about $4/month or $12/grow. I wouldn't be doing it for the extra light but just to get a little bit of blue in my chamber.

So,

$200+ system that can run MH and HPS or
$80 HPS system with a couple CFL's raising costs $12/grow

Anyone have experience with primarily HPS throughout vegetative? How did that effect things? Will the 84 W of 6400K light coming out of the CFL's be sufficient to make the plant happy?
