MH tends to be a little hotter. There are some general rules as to the distance, but the best thing to do is to use the back of your hand. If it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for the plants at that distance. Just remember to alternate hands, or you will have a silly looking tan after a while

keep them no closer than 18 inches, any closer, you'll feel the heat on your hand like the dutch pimp said. And at 18 inches with a 400w your actually giving them more light than the sun is, according to the light scale!
You must've been looking at the 1000W. Actually a 400W at 18" only gives about 40% of what the sun does if you look at the chart that DutchPimp posted....Quote:

Remember too, a fan blowing at the canopy will blow the heat thats concentrated at the top around so it's not so intense, if your temps are stable and you can get cooler air to blow at the tops of the plants, you may even be able to get closer. With a 400w from what I see now its about 7 inches from the top that will be the best.
...try this again...:stoned:

12 inches=100%
that is an awesome graph, helps alot.
For sure, thanks Dutch Pimp!Quote:
