Snakes in my miracle grow
well just one actually ,green ,about 6 inches long , maybe 15 years ago.over the past 30 years i have dumped close to a 1000 bags of MG and other bagged soils onto my tarp and am curious about what others have found in their bags .lets not restrict it to MG , post about anything in any bagged soil. THIS IS NOT A BASH MG THREAD so take any negative comments and start your own thread. Let me also make clear to you people MOST BAGS OF POTTING SOIL ARE CLEAN but shit happens ,deal with it. i have found a horseshoe , nails [extra iron yea] , a wal-mart bag , slugs , short iron pipe , snails, mice , cockroaches , fungus nats , millipedes, centipedes , thrips , whiteflies, aphids ,roly polies [whats the real name for these things].spiders , and other bugs i could not identify .thats all i can remember off the top of my head might list more latter .

Sounds like crappy quality control. Apart from one time getting fungus gnats, all I usually get out of a bag of potting mix is potting mix.

I believe it is Potato Beetles.
I have found me some pressure treated wood(you know how that arsenic is good for plants) and in some really shitty Wal-Mart soil, I found a big piece of a root.

I don't know where you are buying your soil, but if I were you I would start looking some place else :D lol I have never found anything aside from a few roly polys (aka pill bug).

I bought a bag of the miracle grow and has sone knats flying around the closet. Alittle bit of sand on top of the soil and they cleared right out however i was content with the first grow so i continue to use MG!:)

many , many , many bags spread out over many , many years from many different suppliers .nothing i have found has prevented me from using that bag of mix or created problems with the grow.lets add a scorpion [2",brown] to the list.

Same, just tossed the piece of wood, but that scorpion must have been fun to find. Wonder what he had been eating.

I guess I did get some gnats with my last bag, but I just put up some fly strips and within a day or two I only saw one and I killed and mounted it to be an example. ;) Since then I haven't had a problem.
I won't lie about the roly poly thing. I did google it. :wave1:
