The Washington state bill is sponsored by Rep. Mary Lou Dickerson, a Seattle Democrat. Her bill would see marijuana being sold in the state's 160 state-run liquor stores, and customers, 21 and older, would pay a tax of 15% per gram.
No, no, no. Fifteen percent per gram is crazy. The state sales tax is the only tax that should apply on the total sale only. Then a tax fee to be a grower. :D

I agree, that is robbery. Maybe, maybe an excise tax to benefit health programs.????
That was the most glaring example of idiocy I saw in the bill too. Keep the state out of MMJ business. They shouldn't even be involved with the alcohol business. Hell they shouldn't be in any business period. Thats not there job.
The States version of if you can't beat em join em.......legislate it and profit from it.

So let's replace the drug cartels,sell it ourselves, don't tell the people exactly what our motive is and once it's voted in we control it all....
We who live in Wa. State know this is not the proper way of conducting our affairs....extortion never is.

That is a reasonable opinion as the tax drops with the price. I believe it should be sold by independent licensed sellers, just like tobacco and have a free market that will sort itself out over time. Keep the age restriction as for tobacco, and collect a fee for a grower's license. This all applies to total legal mj and should not restrict medical people from growing their own. If they want to sell their overage, they get a wholesaler (grower license).Quote:

I agree with education and health care etc. I balk at buying more cop cars. They have profited enough from the War on Drugs. Frankly, some need pink slips and a new career. :D
Keep it simple.
15% per gram is outrageous, but an overall tax should apply. The cost of regulation needs to be offset. Kind of like tobacco companies being required to pay a certain amount toward health-related industries. Yeah, pump the Marijuana tax into school for education. Teach our kids the truth about ALL mind altering substances, along with the chemical/herbal difference between each.
Take a look at California. Price hasn't dropped at all. If anything its gone up some from the high demand. It would do the same here in Washington for a few years till everyone and there brother is growing.
