One and a half cheers for U.S. Attorney Jim McDevitt when he said, â??â?¦ but federally marijuana is still a scheduled drug. Period.â?� We can give him a rousing three cheers when he prosecutes those people who sell marijuana under the guise of â??medicine.â?�

Marijuana is a Schedule I drug because there is no proven medicinal value. It has not been approved for human consumption by the Food and Drug Administration. Spokane County Superior Court Judge Sam Cozza says it best: â??Marijuana makes people stupid. It makes people do stupid things.â?� (â??Maximum sentence for manslaughter conviction,â?� Dec. 12).

We have the opportunity to curb the detrimental effects of marijuana by not voting for any issue on the ballot that attempts to legalize its use. I implore the Spokane City Council not to approve a ballot initiative to make marijuana offenses the â??lowest law enforcement priority.â?� That would be like making drunken driving a low law enforcement priority.

What makes spokane so different than seattle when it comes to spending less of the peoples money on more important crimes that do actually harm the public interest?

Most likely all the officers of the court,i.e. LEO, prosecutors, the courts themselves which apply for federal grant money is the difference.;)
