Aero type Foggers, do you need root drying time?
The single head and multihead ultra sonic type foggers available on ebay, these foggers put out a dry fog. I don't think that's in debate any further. It seems to me that anyone that has used these foggers quickly discovers that they need to supply the plants with additional water in one form or another. So it occurred to me that if these foggers cant produce enough moisture for the plant, then is there a need to ever shut them off assuming you continue to grow with it? Much of the difficulties I had when trying to use fog was to get a schedule on how much to use it. I heard discussions on all sorts of theories on the watering schedule. Some people use their foggers all the time and it seems to work just as well as those people who use 1 minute on and 5 off. Why even shut the fogger off if there isn't enough moisture in the fog in the first place? Even those the inside of the root zone appears to be moist, the roots usually feel dry to me which might explain why my plants didn't do so well whenever I tried to give them more drying time. The roots weren't wet in the first place when I used fog by itself.

do you use any sort of supplemental watering? Your plants aren't surviving on fog alone are they? What type of fogger do you have?

First off, we don't want to at anytime "dry out the roots", that is not the reason to cycle fog or true areo. BUT 100% humidity and 100% oxygen do not go hand in hand. When you approach 100% humidity you can not have maximum oxygen, that is why we cycle fog or true aeroponics! If you have a fog generator or aero mister system that is capable of reaching 100% humidity or even close to that, it must stop or it will continue to condensate into a liquid.
Think about walking into a sauna or a steam room, it is much more difficult to breath in that moist enviroment then if it was hot but dry. Same thing for plants.:D

OK, when you walk outside on a foggy day with 100% humidity it is not hard to breath.... Steamroom's and sauna's are HOT enviroments...Thus aggitating the lungs and or killing roots. Now, water holds oxeygen better at LOWER temps than higher temps. From 80 degrees and up YES u are depleating oxeygen. My water alone has enough oxeygen to sustain plant life. But since the roots hang in

Sorry I used that analogy HashHands, didn't mean to muddy the waters with the heat aspect.
Try this one instead; same room, same size and same temperture. One room is at 30% relative humidity the other at 95+% humidity, now see how much work or excersie you can do in each. Breathing will be more difficult in the high humidity room vs the low humidity room.
I was trying nicely to point out to you that your contention that 100% humidity with 100% oxygen is scientifically wrong.:(

Damn it... Half of my shit didn't get posted(guess the mods didn't enjoy the lashing). Yes 100% & 100% not scientificaly correct! But I do strive for those numbers.. My roots get fog, water and oxygen 24/7, the pumps never shut off ..... And every plant puts out a 4 to 6 ounce top, dried.....

That's what we all are striving for, maxium conditions for the plant's growth.
Whether max conditions in root zone, atmosphere or light intensities at the right wavelengths...looking to grow the best mmj possible, in the least amount of time as possible should be everyone's goal. I am willing to sacrafice some quantity for quality tho.:)
As to your "my pumps never shut off", what type of fogger and/or aero are you using? Also what size root chamber? These are major factors when it comes to the need to cycle or not. Most true areo systems have extremely short run times because of the shear volume of moisture produced.
