12/12 which way?

I've had my 12/12 "on" from 10pm to 10am, with the thought to:

1) use their heat in the coldest times
2) use less $$ on electric


Now, perhaps because I've added some lights/fans/ # of girlz I'm getting paranoid of thermal imaging helicopters and had read other say to do the "on" durring the day.

So anyone have thoughts on this?

If I were going to change it...I suppose I start an hour at a time or do I just make one big change?

BTW: I live near an airport and I live near two major interstates and there are helicopters flying over ALOT. I try not to be paranoid...but sometimes the control is not there. My veg area is very well insulated and I have less fear of that. But the flowering zone...not so well insulated/ growroom walls =outside walls ect

How many lights and what wattage? It is supposed to be illegal in the US to use thermal imaging for grow detection but I do exactly the same as you, I use the heat from the lamps at night for the room. I run two 400wt. systems and my grow is in a totally seperate room from my house. The only prob. I have encountered is the steam emitting from my exhaust fans. Anyway I think if your room is insulated real well you shouldnt have problems, depending on how many and what watt your lights are. Research the laws in your state on use of TI by law enforcement.Good Luck!!:thumbsup:

I live in an extremely hot area and run everything at night(I also work 8pm-6am) with no problems. The only problem I see would be sunlight leaking in during the "dark" period...

they really dont use them that much for grow ops, when they first started
operation "green mercenary" they used them here and there but they mostly
have them just to catch people running in the dark
but if you are already under investigation and what not i am sure they could
use it along with other evidence to get a search warrant but they cant get one
just off of a hot room

Exactly, I keep reptiles also so I have a room designated for them. They all have their cages heated and the 16 cubic foot freezer in there puts off heat as well. Might look like a grow op from the sky? There's lots of things a warm room could contain, it all depends on how you look at it...

A grower told me once he got a better yield by keeping the photoperiod during the day, because the plants could tell that the sun was in the wrong place for there to be all that light. Something about them sensing the gravitational change. I thought he was full of crap, and have no choice anyway because of the heat issues in summer, but thought I'd throw it out there.

Sweet! I too have a (currently) reptile room. All my neigbors are used to a blue glow because of them, and I've never sealed up the window. So if anyone ever has wondered what is in there they have been able to see!

However my male Iguana died at a ripe old age of 17 years this last summer. His mate is still here, but she is going to the local reptile rescue to be with more iguanas. While I convert the room to grow mmj (legally).

This will still help though. My neighbors will still think it's full of lizards, Helicopters (if they even look) will see the same heat they've been seeing for years and my power usage won't really change at all!

Sorry to hear about Iggy! Yeah I just lost a $1200 breeder & $900 future breeder reticulated pythons this past year & it's hard sometimes but don't let it get you down. I've had reptiles for 17 yrs now & don't think I could ever go cold turkey from them lol.
