Reservior water temp.

Hey all...
Where is the best place to find answers to basic questions for beginners?
I find even in the Q&A things are hard to find.

How important is the water temp in the reservoir?
It's a bit cold in the basement right now.
My 4 plants have been in grow for about 2 weeks and look healthy and happy, but seem to be growing extremely slowly.

I have to wait until after Christmas to finish the two remaining walls on my grow room. I'm sure things will warm up once finished.
I thought I heard a guy ask for a reservoir heater last time I was at the hydro shop.

res temp is best in mid sixties but you dont want air temp below 65f

I would estimate I'm running about 5 - 10 degrees below that. I'm center basement next to the furnace which is the warmest place in the basement. I'm still putting up walls, once I get them and the panda wrap up things should warm right up. I was going to do that today, but I hung out with my boy's instead. Now I'm on another planet so tonight is done. At least I have my priorities in check.
Oh, back on topic, got a programmable space heater if I need it.
I've read that temperatures closer to tropic conditions work best.

stick a thermometer next to one of the plants and see what your air temp is, I'm betting they are to cold. Cold temps is on the top 5 for slow growth in my book. If not done already look through the Basic Growing area and get a lil background and then skim through posts in Hydro area to fine tune things.

Rez temps should be 68 degrees for max oxy in the water. Listen to tiny and get your self a fishtank heater that can be adjusted. They come in watt sizes to fit the tank. Make sure it can be adjusted to 68 degrees. Then wheather you have walls or not it will keep your plants right.

Also, if you have the res sitting on the cement floor, you are picking up temps from there. Try putting a sheet of Styrofoam or even a sheet of plywood between the res and the cement. Makes a difference of 2-3 degrees.

I put my res on top of a cooler and surrounded the whole thing with a space blanket. Temp is just below 80 now, It started to go past 80 until I turned the fan on. They literally seemed to come to life right before my eyes, it was pretty cool actually. I was up until 4:00 this morning reading forums. I'm going to move my grow log to the forum section. Lot's of great help on this site.

no intention to thread jack, but do these "mid 60s is best" temps apply to bubble closers as well?

I guess we left that extremem out, dont want temps to go into 80's. depending on how you are growing, 80+ in DWC = root rot most of the time.

If you mean bubble cloners then no. They need to be a little warmer for roots to start quick.
